Trump administration to scrap Obama guidelines on affirmative action

Just came back from the admissions office. Place is packed with Asians.

I'm pretty sure that there is a class action lawsuit filed by asian students against Harvard.

They have. The trial date is tentatively set for Oct. 15th. The out come could lead to the reversal, in whole or in part, of the 1978 SCOTUS decision.

They will have a new scotus by Sept 1st if it takes d-bag McConnell that long. So rest assured the decision will find in favor of whatever profits the Republicans and their interests.

If a Univ. wants to use race or ethnicity as one of the criteria considered for admission, that's fine by me. As long as the cut is being made between relatively equal meritorious applicants.

Diversity is NOT the primary goal of higher education, it's education. Any University that has become fixated on "diversity" as a primary goal is doing a disservice to the students and to society.

Affirmative Action has been of no great service to society either. This is particularly true in those fields/occupations that have engaged in set-asides and/or the lowering of standards in order to achieve what they have perceived to be balance. Those that have gained positions under such programs are always under a cloud of doubt as to whether they are there as a result of their own achievements. or are merely a "Token" (a nod to South Park). The use of such tools to achieve affirmative action/diversity sends a signal that those individuals are incapable of success without being handicapped. And the overall fact that those Universities/occupations that use those tools have settled for less than the very best.

All of that being said care must be taken to insure that a fully qualified applicant is not excluded based on their race or ethnicity. No one wants to return to those days of yesteryear when many of our premier Universities might as well have had signs posted at the entrance saying "No Coloreds or Jews Allowed." (And if you want to go far enough back in time you could add "Women" to that sign.)

How can you say that?

It gave us our first "black" President.

That sent a message to the world about how great we truly are!

If we hadn't have elected an orange man, the world would still be greatly respecting us...

Yeah, right.

It gave us instead the most subversive, criminally minded, presidential disaster to reside in the White House in US history.

It then, kept Hillary out of office and she would have been much worse...

So there is one good thing affirmative action has done for this nation.

You could also add "No Irish need apply."

This was the intent of Affirmative Action. It's been subverted to a program whereby the unqualified are given handouts in the name of "diversity".

There is an argument which supports the "handout" ideology which goes along with the "fully qualified" position. It's where inner-city kids who show promise were denied access to higher education because their education was from schools which were considered "inferior" due to location and other failing academic standards. AA was supposed to prevent that kind of discrimination, not grant every inner-city kid a seat in a Harvard classroom.

Higher education is where "merit based" is supposed to be the mantra, not the afterthought. The only limitation is supposed to be where preferential treatment is shown toward citizens/residents rather than foreign students requesting admission. You support your people and let the rest of the world whistle for a seat at the university table. It's not like there aren't other institutions out there equal to the US based ones.

On another note, the Asian students rock it because their mom's made them study and do their homework. If American parents did the same, the Asian kids wouldn't have such a GPA advantage. Life is all about competition. If the US students don't qualify, then give the seats to those who do, even if they're Foreign applicants. FORCE the US based students to come to the scratch, don't lower the standards and then deny applicants who are better qualified in the name of "diversity".

A few years back I saw an Asian dude argue for Affirmative Action even though he agreed it was screwing over Asian students trying to get into top schools.
Fucker made absolutely no sense.
It's not just high school to college. It's even worse when they decide who gets into med school based on skin color.

Asians have a native IQ advantage as well. Their mean falls in the 105+ range. This is as a result of breeding (genetics) and culture (studying your ass off). Going back to 600 AD the Chinese adopted an Imperial Testing program to recruit their bureaucrats (mandarins). The Japanese and Koreans adopted similar programs. The only way a dirt poor peasant had to live a relatively comfortable life was to get a son through the testing program. Those that were successful were able to help take care of their families. So those cultures began to selectively breed for intelligence (arranged marriages) and pound study habits into their children. Over 1400 years of history there.
