I just got back from my first Bodypump class. In another thread, I expressed being nervous about going and so many people said such positive things, it made me feel more comfortable going. I ended up loving the class.

That made me think about starting a thread dedicated to workouts, getting healthy, trying new things, etc. Iโ€™d love to learn more about what everybody does to stay in shape, your progress, any goals you have, and any relapses (because we all have them).

This thread is open anybody who wants to participate. ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผ

I used to go to spin class 4-5 times a week. I had a love hate relationship with it. I haven't been in months. Just stopped going. I hate going to gyms. I feel so self conscious. I also might add, I have a treadmill and elliptical machines in my basement....collecting dust. Okay, yeah I'm just to lazy to workout.
Someone motivate me!

Iโ€™m intimidated by spin classes. Good for you for going. Iโ€™m not big on the gym for a few reasons: 1. I donโ€™t feel like I know enough about what constitutes an effective workout so I feel Iโ€™m not gaining anything from it and itโ€™s a waste of time. 2. Because I donโ€™t like looking like I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™m doing and my ego gets in the way. 3. It can be a meat market and ainโ€™t nobody got time for that.

I get the issue with the gym. It always is congested, can't get on the apparatus that you want, etc. I personally am not a big elliptical fan. I like to hit the treadmill for warm-up runs and then do either resistance work on my Bowflex Blaze or dumbbell exercises. I think you just need to get into a routine. As you probably know from going to spin class like you had previously, once you establish that habit it becomes part of your day. Plus the adrenaline rush post workout is always a nice motivation. If that doesn't work for you, you can use the post-workout smoothie as the incentive! :)

A friend of mine is an instructor, so that helped. Now she teaches to far for me to go to her class, plus last few months time as become an issue..(maybe that's just another excuse) anyway, I need and want to do something more than taking my dog for long walks.

Can I just drink a chocolate shake on my sofa and watch Netflix? :D
I like the elliptical machine, not the treadmill. I think in the next few weeks I'm going to dust that thing off and start using it again.

I'm not a gym fan, but that doesn't stop a person from exercising if they have the right motivation. If you can devote an hour or two to every morning and just get out and walk you'll be surprised at the results. Pay attention to what your eating and use common sense portion control and you'll get healthier. With the increased energy and overall improved well being you'll do even more every day.

FWIW I prefer outdoor exercise but I also invested in a good treadmill and other equipment. I'm fortunate enough to have the time flexibility to get up very early in order to do what I need to do exercise related. The bottom line is find your motivation and keep that motivation. Everybody's different and in the end it comes down to personal choice.

I like being outdoors the best, too. I just found that I wasnโ€™t getting anything other than cardio, so a class for strength training helps.

In the summertime, I have plenty of flexibility with my schedule but once school is back in, I think itโ€™ll be hard to find that much tome in the morning to workout.

Thatโ€™s a great goal to have. :)

I'll let you know how it goes. Ain't making any promises. :D

Will add this..... I go horseback riding almost everyday. So,while it is a good work out for certain parts of my body, I do know and feel I need to do more.

I do agree with the outside. I love being outdoors and love walks and hiking.

Exactly. Gym memberships are worth the investment for a great many people. I also couldn't agree more that busy schedules can be challenging when it comes to a good fitness program.

I love this idea for a thread.

Exercise-wise I think I'm okay. Where I fail miserably is diet. I just finished three slices of pizza and a 16oz. Mountain Dew for God's sake!!!

I switched from cereal in the morning to a hard boiled egg and a cup of black coffee with MCT oil and I lost 12 pounds in 5 months, my blood pressure is awesome and my cholesterol leveled out. So breakfast is handled. Lunch and dinner, however, are still a disaster. Does anyone have any great (simple) recipe ideas for a filling non-carbed out lunch or dinner?

Keep in mind I have no cooking abilities and I have no class when it comes to food.
Last night I ate a handful of cold chicken with half an avocado and it was fine.

Thanks!

PS: getting sweaty with Sexybritches--Mmmm, that's just . . . Mmmm ;)

The MCT oil is fantastic, if your not utilizing organic apple cider vinegar in your diet then do so. Between the two and a lot of exercise I've dropped 16 pounds in about two and a half months.
Steamed veggies, fish and chicken are solid choices for an easy meal. Also don't forget simple salads that avoid high calorie dressings. The organic apple cider vinegar mixed with the MCT and some oregano and Mrs. Dash seasoning salt is great.
I did read your comment on cooking skills. No problem. Veggie steamers are cheap and easy. Chicken and fish? Super easy. Go to the Utubeit channel and learn.

Easy / healthy dinner ideas:

Chicken enchiladas. Cube up two chicken breasts (about 1 lb. total), place in skillet and heat with one can refried beans (16oz), diced green pepper and flavor with cumin to taste. You can also add chili powder if you like. Brown the chicken and mixture for about 3 - 5 minutes. Take out a 9 x 13 baking dish, spray with Pam or use some other release. Open a tortilla (preferably wheat if you are trying to be really healthy about it) and place the chicken, pepper and bean mixture inside. Roll the tortilla, seam side down and repeat until you fill the baking dish or use all of the mixture. Top the enchiladas with salsa until well covered. Covered the dish with foil, bake at 400 for about 35-40 minutes. Pull out of oven and sprinkle low fat cheese (Mexican, three cheese, your choice) across the top.

It sounds like a lot, but is really easy. If you want really fast and easy the following is good:

Chicken or beef strips (prepackaged) heated in microwave and you can mix with greens (spinach, lettuce, your choice) and / or rice. Good protein and very easy to make.

your diet determines your weight.

your workout/ activity level determines your fitness.

the myth of losing weight via working out is what discourages too many people.

This is absolutely true.

Iโ€™m just trying for a better overall lifestyle. It also has a lot to do with my mood and energy level. If I havenโ€™t worked out or gone for a walk or something in a while, I get really grumpy.

Grabs your hand and sets out for a long long walk. We can't have you getting grumpy now can we!

It focuses on strength training. There is an instructor at the front of the class. She guides the group through a series of exercises using light to moderate weights. Itโ€™s not really cardio but you are all moving together and thereโ€™s music, etc.

sounds like an orgy.

Well, I had to make this thread sexy somehow. This is Lit, afterall.

At my prime- I could do a full circuit of Insanity without dying and lift weights following the ICF (Icecream fitness) routine. And then, I had 2 kids in 2 years. So, yeah... my free time has disappeared. If I figure out how to balance housework, kiddos, my sanity, and working out- I'll let y'all know. Lol.
