Willie Brown, former mayor of San Francisco after being the very powerful Assembly Speaker, is the ultimate Demo insider in California and about the slickest pol I ever met. He writes:

Trump is more popular than Dems want to admit
It’s time for the Democrats to stop bashing President Trump.

It’s not going to be easy, given his policies and personality. It might even mean checking into a 12-step program. But setting a winning agenda is like maneuvering an aircraft carrier. It takes time to change course. And if they want to be on target for the November midterm elections, the Democrats need to start changing course now.

Like it or not, a significant number of Americans are actually happy these days. They are making money. They feel safe, and they agree with with the president’s protectionist trade policies, his call for more American jobs, even his immigration stance.

The jobs growth reports, the North Korea summit and the steady economy are beating out the Stormy Daniels scandal and the Robert Mueller investigation in Middle America, hands down.

So you are not going to win back the House by making it all about him.

Rather than stoking the base by attacking Trump, Democrats need to come up with a platform that addresses the average voters’ hopes and concerns. Not just the needs of underdogs or whatever cause happens to be the media flavor of the week.

Democrats need to look like the adults, not like another pack of screaming kids on the playground. And they need to start now.

Besides, when it comes to bashing Trump, Donald is doing just fine on his own.
He doesn't suggest what that platform should be. Thanks a fucking lot, Willie.

Can't imagine it can you?

What on Earth are the Democraps worth if they aren't the party of Trump bashing???

More infringement upon civil rights?

More taxes to feed the black hole of government that only a tiny fraction of which will ever make it back to the public??

The biggest thing they've done in 30 years was Romneycare....a Republican HC scam.

Democrats have nothing else to offer......LOL

The R Party won by doing nothing but bashing Hillary Clinton for 30 years. Worked for them.

This "all you do is bash Trump" is the biggest piece of hypocritical crap. Lock Her Up ring a bell?

Plus it's not true.

Willie sounds like he spends too much time on chat boards and watching cable. In the real world, Dems are winning everywhere, and it's not by "bashing Trump."

Candidates up and down WI.

Not one of them ran an anti-Trump campaign. They don't have to.

Most of these races are coming down to a simple case of quality of candidate, not "messaging." They're running excellent candidates with spotless records who run positive campaigns.

Outside of certain cable shows and chat boards like this one, let's hear an example of a Dem candidate in the real world running on an anti-Trump message. Buehler? Are any of them running around screaming about Stormy Daniels?

He underestimates the disgust with Trump. Dems don't need to, and haven't, explicitly catered to that. Just running a quality candidate is siphoning that disgust and elevating the D candidate by comparison, even among die-hard red places like Alabama.

As for "Middle America," they watch Fox. What can you say? The only thing that might get through to those people is when the shit really hits the fan with Trump, and it hasn't happened yet. They're a lost cause. Still, local issues like teachers and guns are becoming more and more important and decisive.

His argument might have more relevance in the general election in 2020, but I think it's totally uninformed for the Congressional races coming up

You libs might be interested: You had a 16 point lead over Republicans in February, today you're down to one point. It was three points last week and we still have 6 months until the election. What happened to the Blue Wave you've been lying about for months?

A 16 point lead in the generic ballot.

Dems keep winning in the real world. When the tide turns at the ballot box, we'll let you know.

Any R victories lately? Beuhler?

I think Willie is right, the Dem's need a platform that addresses the lower 60% and the Debt. Instead of the 'stimulus' going to the Mil-Indust Complex and Big Pharma, it should go to Social Security increases, health care, infrastructure, and education.

Repeal the Tax cut for the wealthy and trim another 200 Billion off the Pentagon and the Black Budgets.

As noted, Dum winners are NOT running Trump-bashing campaigns, just as Willie Brown suggests. And yes, Dums need to show they're not corporate whores. That's the hard part -- because too many ARE corporate whores.

Yeah the funny thing is none of that will actually change if you get the blue wave you're praying for. The Dems seem to be running on increasing taxes and restricting gun rights. Okay the base might go for it since they never think they're the one paying for it. Also while the defense budget should always be looked into we're fighting around the globe. Maybe..possibly those funds are necessary. You know to keep you safe so you can complain about the military.

Yeah the funny thing-

It ain't the "Troops" Military that is the problem, it's the Industrial part that is the problem. Since the 1950's America has used military production to 'stimulate' the economy. If a third of the same stimulus had been diverted to other things, we could be just as safe as we are now that everybody hates us for being bloody assholes in their countries.

USA spends more on 'security' than the rest of the world combined. Do we feel safe? Crime stats show Germany is among the world's safest places -- but polled Germans don't feel safe. How much 'safety' is a sham?

Military production is funny; you hope the stuff will never be used. Build lots and lots of artillery, rockets and missiles, carriers and strategic subs, ICBMs, ships that don't work, planes that don't work, etc. That money and production capacity COULD have built stuff that produces more stuff, or funded health and education programs. But no; it's black hole time.

Military production is economic meth. How long can USA keep mainlining?
