A little quickie to get things going. Would you rather have a planned really good thing to look forward to, or have a great surprise just come out of nowhere?

Is it an expectants game vs the unknown?

I like having something to look forward to. When I don't? I'm Dark-Trekka a la "Where the hell has Trekka been lately?!"

(Pouting because she has decided she has nothing to look forward to)

I don't like the unexpected. Plenty of real life curve balls already. I'm not gonna turn down a surprise trip to Bora Bora, but I'll totally freak out about how little time I've got to pack.

I freak out like a pro. No surprises there.

I think my appetite for surprise has diminished with increasing age. Like Trekka, I like the 'looking forward'. Otherwise I might finish up in flip-flops in the snow, or on the beach in my big coat  That said, I do trust my nearest and dearest to plan surprises properly, so I don't. :)

A planned date, the anticipation of it happening is so awesome, knowing that you will be together...planning what you might do....what might happen. But those are less frequent than quickies....that happens the most. :)

While surprises are awesome, I think anticipation wins every time.
The only problem with plans are that sometimes they fall through and then a surprise will take the cake.

I love me a great surprise.

You know, adding on to my blurt.
The excitement that comes with something planned is amazing. The butterflies of anticipation building and having all your ducks in order has a comforting appeal for sure.

But a surprise..... it’s like shooting a pic in .RAW format. Nothing compressed, the detail is amazing. It’s the real deal, the unexpected, authentic and perhaps a bit disheveled. But maybe that’s what it’s all about, the giver wanting to see all that in the receiver. A thrill for both.

Without regard to the what, is it better to give 0 effort rather than partial effort when you can't give full effort? Translated - Is doing something half-assed worse than doing nothing at all?

Depends on what it is.

With all due respect, Mr. Chained, your questions are often a little... dry. What's up with that?

Half an ass is better than no ass at all.

And sometimes? It's the best I got.

Life isn't all or nothing, black or white. Sometimes it's grey and messy and partially undone.

I always try to go full ass and balls deep.:D
If I'm not in 100% then I'd rather not do it.

Good analysis and I concur. Planning's great but sometimes that random out of nowhere surprise.

Yeah, I get that and it's how my life rolls most of the time.

Honey askin the hard hitting questions! :D

****

And it feels like we got a lot of perfectionists up in here! (Takes one to know one ;))

I try and live by the 80/20 rule... otherwise I'd lose my mind.

We’re all guilty at times of doing shit half assed, and as a society we have come up with beautiful excuses to pad these behaviors.
“I was too busy” or “I really wanted to but..”

I think perception and appearance can play into this dilemma. How much time and thought was really given to how much was I expecting. Items maybe seem as half ass, but at the time there’s nothing wrong with small or short and sweet.

The worst by far is a half ass gift. Those are like a slap to the face.
Well, and half ass one sided sex. That will leave me a little grumpy. Or A Lot!

It depends on the situation. A half-assed car wash will make you look dopey, but it's probably better than not washing your car when it really needs one. Half-assed car repairs is probably much better to do nothing at all.

I don't think you can separate the "what" from this question. Or at least the context.

I don't want this to sound too arrogant, but there have been a number of contexts where my "half assed" is more than sufficient and better than what the next best option was.

In other words, yes: sometimes half assed is better than nothing...
