Aussies! Check in here!

Afternoon all,

So the start of another week and the weather has turned cooler overnight, but went out a couple of hours ago to get the mail and discovered the day had turned humid after a morning of fog and it's only been 20 in Melbourne today. Very strange weather at the moment.

The Banking Royal Commission...I suppose we shouldn't be surprised at the activities of the big four banks and getting mixed signals from the govt since they fought against it and none of them has apologised to the victims. Morrison claims he knew about the issues but then if he did, nobody has asked him why he didn't do anything about it. Could sound like a cover up. Either way the Libs and Nats can't run away from the fact they didn't want this inquiry to happen. All they seem to care about is getting rid of industry super funds and give that to the banks. And not let us forget about the tax cut for the banks.

I didn't think I'd hear about Balanced Scorecards again but they have been featuring in the questions. Their risk management seems to be about giving it all to the customers. As for the regulator well it's clear the banks reckon they are useless. Probably time to get rid of the regulator and put in a proper oversight group. It's clear the banks can't be trusted. Will anyone do jail time? Nope just a few fines and business as usual. Besides they could probably pay the fines with that tax cut they're all going to get from the govt. Greed wins again.

Bank customers are a bit like what we've seen from the footage of the live export trade recently. When no longer useful just toss them overboard and a percentage won't survive which is built into the business plan. The term 'customer' is dead and has been replaced with 'shareholder' who like their meat still bleeding on the plate. Lives have been destroyed... that's not an issue just keep up the share price and keep billing the dead. That's financial management the Aussie way...fuckwits

On a happier note I purchased a new video game console last week when it went back on sale. Was expecting technology issues when copying from one to the other but it all went well. Have packed away all the Summer stuff. The fans and evap cooler are back under covers and also changed to the warmer bed sheets today. Will be heater time in the next few weeks towards mid to late May. Have a stock of red wine for when that happens. Still have beer in the fridge that needs drinking.

Hope your week goes well. Welcome to the new posters. Best way to get involved is post stuff.

Red is good but get rid of the beer and stock a few stouts for winter. Even if you do the old black and tan with 50/50 stout and pale, Coopers of course ;)

I intend to get rid of the beer the traditional way. Yep I like the darker beer a fact noted by one of the staff at Dan Murphy's the last time I visited. Found Murphys a few years ago at the local bottle shop which I originally found in Ireland all those years ago. Will probably get back to my single malt in the cooler months to warm me up.

Hope your day has gone well

Stupid Question but...

Is it really possible to relocate to Australia like all the websites say...as there is massive skills shortages.. or work in the mines near perth or something?

I'm going to say no?

But asking straight to the source. Is it possible, peeps? Will they recruit you internationally, help you relocate, get a visa etc?

Possible. But stupid hard right now. Visa restrictions are in place as the mining and oil industries have crashed. Im in the oil industry and we're still seeing redundancies on a regular basis. The mining sector picked up a bit sooner than we did. But still, lots of unemployment at the moment.

My advice one you've crossed a bridge burn it down so you aren't tempted to cross back over it. It also scares off the troll living under it.
Wise words. I like it!

Sounds fun! I was just thinking about getting a console game now that the kiddo is a bit older....but I am trying to hold off until he can at least read a little. He loves books, but isn't making much effort to read or write. Maybe at the end of the year.

I hope everyone is having a good start to the week.

thank you! Just as I suspected. There really aren't skills shortages anywhere. Not sure why that get's pushed out in so many stories. I think it just plays into everyone's fantasies of moving away to a new land.

Melbourne guy

Morning all, just stumbled on this thread as I was browsing so I thought I'd do as asked and check in...!

Well you could always buy one for him that's actually for you. They can be addictive though however play is the best form of learning for kids.

I usually purchase the ones that are open world and have challenges likes puzzles. Can drive you nuts trying to work them out. Apparently they are also using video games for elderly patients to help fight things like dementia.

Hey Seth,

We just had a revamp of working visas to Aussie land. Unless you have a particular expertise then it would be difficult to get thru. Would have to be experience not already available in the country. What Pert stated is correct. Aussie land is not the open job market it once was.

Have to fall back on the marry an Aussie plan then!

Afternoon all,

Twice in one week. Had to jump on the PC to do some urgent emailing. Also forgot to mention about ANZAC Day in my previous posts. Looks like the marchers will be rained on again this year in Melbourne. I liked the look of the centenary badge so I purchased one. Usually buy a badge every year.

Just got rained on whilst out doing some gardening. Waited for the rain to pass but nothing was happening so figured it would come later, but nope...it must have been waiting for me. Did manage to finish hacking the front hedge before it got too heavy.

I was totally wrong about the weather yesterday or rather what I heard on the radio was totally wrong. Such weird weather these last two days. Seems like there is more wet stuff on it's way thru Melbourne. Will be cooling down a lot for the rest of the week or so the forecast states.

Off to a catchup lunch on Friday with former workmates. Hopefully the rain gods are kind.

Discovered who the fuckwit is with the loud car, I heard yesterday. One of the new people in the neighbourhood. Not sure why he needs to race to the end of the street which is quite short. Must be making up for something, like possibly the lack of a brain. Considering there are more kids about the place, that isn't going to end well.

Need more coffee. Currently playing God of War. Would be good if they made that into a movie or TV series one day like they have with other video games.

Evening aussies...

So, I gave myself a full week of self-indulgence. One full week of allowing myself to cry, scream, analyse, cry more, rehash, drink, cry more, drink more....
...and now I think I am ready to rejoin the real world.

Not over the pain - of course not! Not yet - but most definitely over the absolute worst of it all. The only way to go from this unbelievable low, is up, right?!

I have had messages of love and support from the people in my life who matter the most, and they have helped enormously.

Time to get on with it....

Yes! I'm a gamer (PC - haven't done console in years), but I have actually been holding off. Everything I buy for me tends to be taken over eventually....

WQ - Fabulous news! I'm so glad to hear that you're feeling better!

It's finally my birthday. Thirty fucking nine. That came up fast. I'm trying to keep it positive - I'm still not 40! But I can't help but feel like I'm stuck where I am. For example, with clothing and shoes, I'm too old to shop at the "trendy" shops, but I'm too young to shop in the old ladies section. So I look like mutton dressed as lamb. Then at work, I'm too old to re-train for a different career, but I'm too young to retire...so I'm stuck doing what I'm doing.
But the good news is that my splurge has kept going all month. Tattoo. New boots, clothes, monitor, headphones, a snake, kitchen things...it's been a busy month tossing the old things out and upgrading. It's been nice. Autumn cleaning!

I hope everyone is doing well and has had a good weekend.

Hi pert

Not feeling better, as such..... more like having allowed myself the time to go completely batshit crazy, I am now feeling like I have got the very worst of it all out of my system, and it's time to stop giving him any more of my emotions....

39! So you're a young one then :)
Trust me when I say that my 40's were probably the BEST years.... finally got taken seriously by everyone, had learned who I was and what I wanted, didn't take any bs from anyone any more....
Oh yes - the 40's are pretty damn good!

Thanks, WQ! I needed to hear that!! I have a few friends in their 40's and none of them are overly positive about it! My aunt, however, who is in her 60's and still positive about getting older.

Hi Pert :rose:
Yes I am back (occasionally!). Just wanted to say that this year I turn 60  and I'm starting a new job in childcare (5-13 yr olds before and after school). I went back to NZ after Gil passed to be closer to my family. New start, new job...it's scary but exciting at the same time.

WQ I'm glad you got it all out of your system. Sometimes though it might come back and bite you in the bum...I've found that grief will do that and you ARE grieving.

Not all out, but that first big sting of pain has gone....
Onwards and upwards.... :)

Hey Bandit ltns, I had a hiatus from the site for a number of years. Good to see another old name up here and so sorry about Gil. The two of you made the original thread.

Oh Bandit, I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry for your loss. You and Gil shared so much together.

Before and after school care is SUCH hard work! I would never do that in a million years! I take my hat off to those who do - I'd be lost without the carers we have at our centre. The kiddo is "clingy" :)heart: he's a mini-me and it's hard not to get attached when it's just the two of us in the house!) and he has issues at drop off everyday. He's almost 6, and still has separation issues.

Anyway, glad you're still popping in here!

How good your 40s are depends entirely on how you approach them. As a 50yo I can honestly say that my 40s was one of the best decades of my life so far!

Enjoy each year as best you can. Make this next year the best, and then the one after that...

Hey Pert,

I found my way to gaming initially thru a PC and played the earlier versions of Elder Scrolls but then tried a game console and I found a controller as a quicker way to perform action and haven't looked back.

Well if you're having a fucking 39 then that's a good thing right :D. Easiest way to deal with age is just accept it. Also as you get older you don't give a stuff what other people think on what you wear. Harder for women I know. On the positive side you'll get to cougar status, watchout for those younger guys.

Never too old to change careers/jobs or learn new skills. The more experience and skills you absorb the more options you have for jobs. I got to the point where people were coming to me with job offers just thru people talking about my skills. Companies are willing to pay for experience so stay positive. The govt will be changing the pension to 70 in the next few years so you'll be working for another 30yrs, might as well enjoy it.
