When the lit forums close

the above is actually a very good summary position-point article

Forum or no forum, my 4 consecutive wins of the Lit Dead Pool will stand forever. :D :D :D

^ Liberal budgetary thinking that this will somehow reduce STD's.
The fuck? It's about avoiding vice charges, that's all. The trick goes back to USA Prohibition. Clubs gave away booze but rented or sold mugs and tumblers. Weak on history, are you? Sad.

How to cut both STDs and population: Don't fuck. Not with living beings of your species, anyway. In the bright world of the future, pleasure-electrode implants will satisfy your orgasmic needs. You won't need a goat then.

1. You failed to say your suggestion was one on how to avoid vice.
2. Condoms for $100 are not the same thing as renting a mug or glass for a quarter.
3. SEX isn't prohibited.
4. You failed to mention prohibition.

When you make a comment like you did, you need to be more specific if you're thinking of something particular. Otherwise people are going to think what THEY think not what you only thought you meant and didn't say. It's not their fault you fucked up.

MY POINT, on the other hand, was clear. Progressive thinking and solutions fail from soup to nuts. Your post illustrates that very well.

Was just reading a CBC article on that. Seems somebody had a beef with those boys. :)

Lacey and Larkin are former owners of the Village Voice and the Phoenix New Times, but retained ownership of Backpage.com.

A decade ago, they were arrested by then-sheriff Joe Arpaio's office for publishing information about a secret grand jury subpoena demanding information on its stories and online readers.

They won a $3.75-million US settlement from county government as a result of their now-discredited arrests.

Where will you go?

Backpage, craigslust, reddit.... have all shut down their sex forums because of fosta.

How will rory declare victory if theres nowhere to post it?

Lit is eternal. Resistance is futile. ;)

Forgive me if it's been mentioned already...

...I did not take the time to read the whole thread.

FOSTA is a US law and so only applies to sites based in the US. Some of these sites could easily set up a base in another country, if they don't have one already, and still be good. US laws aren't good in other countries.

Now if I'm wrong on any of this please forgive me I'm not a lawyer and don't know much about law that wasn't taught in my high school government class.

I've never liked CL. I used it at one time, ran into a couple of questionable situations, and steer clear of it. There's been a lot of complaints about their personals and sales adds. Though CL doesn't encourage it, people use it to scam others all the time. There's many more to choose from.

Call me crazy but doesn't this go against your 1st Amendment rights? And what right does Congress have to police the interwebz? Last time I looked there were no borders on the net. I'm surprised more people aren't upset by this. If there is even a whiff of 2nd Amendment rights being interfered with the media and forums get all up in arms about it (sorry couldn't resist). Imo freedom of speech is far more important than the right to bear arms. This Communications Decency Act isn't new, is it? So why isn't there a huge outcry about it? Especially on a word porn site? Just askin'.
Not really. There's a lot of speculation and misunderstandings about the 1st Amendment. Net Neutrality topics have been all over the internet for a long time now. It's nothing new and people have been both upset and pleased about it.

I never found Lit personals conducive to actually meet anyone in real life because they’re not local in the way CL personals are. They seem pretty different to me. Maybe I just never really tried to use them in the same way.

How are users misusing/breaking laws with Lit personals?
From what I've read about FOSTA, sites like Lit don't foster or encourage illegal activity in the personals. The new internet laws are going after sites that do. Not everyone is honest. Not everyone has good intentions.

Because Lit is well known for erotica, people are going to gravitate to it. There's always people who will mess it up for others.

The way I understand how these new laws work is that sites where illegal activity like prostitution or non-licensed escort services are being offered via a 3rd party, then those sites are the ones being targeted. I'm assuming there is some sort of grandfather clause or leeway that gives sites time to adjust accordingly.

That's simply my interpretation, not inside knowledge. Other opinions may differ.

Heh:)

I'm not a lawyer either. I have taken time to read some of FOSTA. It's very wordy and extensive. The parts I read were very clear to me.

I interpret FOSTA same way as you do. It only applies to sites based in the US. I came to Lit to write and publish stories. I'm in the habit of researching such sites before making a decision. Many people do that. From my searches, Lit is US based.

Either way, it's fucked up to have come to this point. I hope sites like Lit can navigate through this somehow. I'm fairly certain FOSTA addresses more issues than the personals sections of websites.

You're spot on if the same laws as a decade ago are being enforced. I can't imagine it being hard to buy a small server offshore and migrate the VB database to the new offshore unit.
