Now that the con artist has taken to a trade war with China, the very people who voted for the con artist are inching ever closer to panic mode. This is because the tariffs China is and have proposed to put in place on American products strike at the heart of the country. Specifically, the Midwest and its farming and ranching communities.

China has raised tariffs on pork and has said one of their next targets is soybeans. The U.S. is the second largest supplier of soybeans to China, after Brazil. With a 25% tariff on pork products and soybeans, American ranchers and farmers would see themselves unable to sell their products in China. And because this trade war is happening in real time, they will be unable to find alternative means to sell their goods in a timely manner.

But not to worry, the con artist has them covered.

"I talked to the president as recently as last night," [Agriculture Secretary Sonny] Perdue said. "And he said, 'Sonny, you can assure your farmers out there that we're not going to allow them to be the casualties if this trade dispute escalates. We're going to take care of our American farmers. You can tell them that directly.'"

In other words, not only are American taxpayers going to pay higher prices for the Chinese-made goods they buy (which at this point is at least 90% of what they buy), but the U.S. government will gladly hand over tens of billions of tax dollars to prop up the very people they threw under the bus.

Even "free market" Senator Chuck Grassley has weighed in:

"The United States should take action to defend its interests when any foreign nation isn’t playing by the rules or refuses to police itself. But farmers and ranchers shouldn’t be expected to bear the brunt of retaliation for the entire country," Grassley said in a statement.

Good times for all.

Chinese products including toys with lead based paint? Drywall that contained toxic chemicals the made new home-owners deathly ill? (and, yes, some died)

They don't want our prices they can get a better deal somewhere else. Our farmers have plenty of market.

LOL...not in the USA they don't.

Besides the USDA/EPA has been waging war on independent/family/small farms for decades now on behalf of big ag . We've destroyed our local agricultural bases in favor of globalism. In not all but most states it's become nearly impossible to access any markets beyond selling at your local farmers market once a week or directly to restaurants/customers in a pre-arranged manner. That's about all the market access that smaller farmers have. They don't have other access to mainstream markets because "regulations" mean mainstream market distribution is controlled by a few licence holders and most of them won't bother with a farmer that's bringing less than XXX tons of product. You're not worth the paperwork.

SO....we better get ready to do some SERIOUS Ag reforms or the cost of food in this country is about to get silly. You might not see it at the markets, but they will get it from you somewhere.

Food, like fuel is one of those markets you can't just ignore the cost of fucking it over and burn your farmers with minimal consequences type things. Fucking with that is a DANGEROUS game that has felled more than a few empires/civilizations. I hope Trump knows what he's doing, hungry people are the beginning of the end. That is a historical standard and law of human nature I don't think even the USA can escape.

I mean if we don't get our bacon how can we fight ISIS?
