It's fiction, people

The Beatles' appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 was more important than the election of most of the US Senators that year, in terms of meaningful impact on the course of history.

Not sure how that works, sorry.

Stretching it not too much, how about the election of most US Senators sitting in August of that year? It was those folks who passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, key to subsequent US buildup in Vietnam.

I don't think it's either-or. As somebody once noted, the pen may be mightier than the sword, but the sword speaks louder at any one time. The pen (including painting, literature, polemics and so forth) sets the stage; the sword executes the design. Without art, the sword would plod along much as it always had done. Conversely, lacking the sharp edge of action, art - in terms of changing the world - is mere rhetoric and finger-painting.

Abso- fricking-- lutely. Loved The Who.

OK, I forgive you for pointing out my sloppy tenses in my Amelia story (I don't do that any more :)) - and if you proceed to tell me that you reckon The Doors are OK too, then I'll lighten up on your sisters in penguin stories. Not your mom, though (just so you understand ;)).

Ace band though, yeah!

I saw Pete and Rog a few years back - their last world tour. Still a pair of grumpy old bastards, stopped two songs because the rest of the band was out of time. I would not want to be Townshend's side of stage sound guy - he got a bollocking for something or other.
