What gives Walmart the right to set the age to buy a gun?

Can store policy be to not sell a gun to someone because they are black?

Race is a "protected class" under law. Not sure about age. You have "55+ seniors aparments", Hertz and Avis refusing to rent to anyone under 25 and Holiday Inn not renting rooms to those under 22, so I have to think some sort of age discrimination is permissible under law.

I suddenly have this overwhelming urge to go to Walmart. There's a kiwi in there somewhere. And some hot wings..........with some dietary lowfat ranch dressing.

Good to read the very same wannabes salute Walmart's free market choice of whom to sell to...

...as they also insist a baker has no free market choice of whom to sell to.

Age is not a "protected class" unless you are 40 or older.

Well answer the question.

And/or tell me the difference between selling a gun and a wedding cake.

The wedding cake:

The business shot their mouths off telling everyone and anyone that they were against gay marriage and wouldn't make a cake for a gay couple if they were asked. They set themselves up for a discrimination suit because sexual orientation is a protected class. Establishing a policy which denies sales to a member of a protected class is discriminatory per se.

The refusal to sell guns to people under 21:

Walmart established a company policy to not sell certain items to otherwise lawful patrons based upon their age and the legal hassles that could potentially come Walmart's way. Age, as a protected class, is a class in which the members of the class are OVER 40. Thus policies which deny sales to those NOT in the protected class are not discriminatory.

A capitalist free market simply commands that ALL producers and consumers are naturally, inalienably free to do their individual business with whomever they wish...

Alas, snowflakes DEMAND all the statist/socialist/progressive/collective affirmative action they can get to even begin to compete in such an exceptional marketplace.

Its their business they can institute whatever policy they want. I'm amazed they're still selling them at all and not pussying out to the whiny liberals.

Love the way this country is going, let's ban guns, but legalize pot...a stoned, stupid, lazy and defenseless country. Obama is so proud.

Gun's rights activists argue for their rights under the 2nd amendment as an absolute. It doesn't have to be reasonable or rationale or in the public's best interest, the law says it is so and that is all that matters.

Apply the same here or expose yourself as an ignorant hypocrite. Show us the absolute legal documentation that shows that Walmart has no right to discriminate sales based upon age.

If the legal proof does not exist as established law then your point is as valid as those who believe the 2nd amendment should be repealed. Go make it happen or shut the fuck up already.

'...shall not be infringed.'

Eat me!

'...shall not be infringed.'

Eat me!

Now prove that a competent court will interpret "shall not be infringed" as precluding an age based restriction. Otherwise your are just another ignorant nitwit wannabe picking 4 words out of context.

"...... well organized militia"....would eliminate most gun owners.

Go fuck yourself.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed......"

I challenge you to prove to me that "the people" means any person whatsoever - including criminals, prison inmates, toddlers and insane people. If not you accept that there are limitations.

In that case it comes back to the question of who gets to define the limitations (hint: it isn't you).

I am not going to play the 'prove it to me' game.... do your own work, the world does NOT owe you a paycheck nor an answer to all your lame questions. We have a Constitution, and it has a 2nd amendment. You get the opportunity to live with that, or you can whine. Your choice.

The general drift of a store isn't lost on the customers, who get tired of being given the stink eye, and reviled for their purchases. Sooner or later, the customers who used to go there top coming for all the other things they sell as well. Next thing you hear, they're closing stores here and there, and eventually going out of business. Businesses who fail their customers deserve to go out of business.

Who cares?

I haven't bought a firearm from a retail outlet in 20 years ever since I got an FFL. Even at their best, Walmart's selection sucks in that regard and I know nothing about Dicks, Field and Stream or Bi-mart as they aren't up here.

As far as ammunition, most of the stuff I own I reload and brass is free (or like a penny or two a case) at the range. Walmart or some other big box store like that doesn't sell reloading supplies and the only thing I would be getting from them would be .22 rimfire. If they want to give me the stink eye there then I'll go someplace else.

It's no skin off my nose.

I just hope that we don't forget about this gun thing when the indictments start coming down

If you shop at walmart, you hate american workers, so what does the rest really matter?

I shop Walmart Canada. I don’t purchase meat there but I do buy non pershiable goods, paper goods. Their prices are 40-50 percent lower than the grocery stores.

I don’t want to pay $25 for laundry detergent or $18 for a 12 pack of toilet paper.

There's a price for those discounts, and that price is the low wages that they pay their workers, less market choice, money to fund their anti-worker lobbying, and their union busting BS.
