Plus he, like everyone else, knew Hillary was tagged as Obama's successor as soon as she lost to him in 2008. For 8 years we knew she was the heir apparent, and that was proven when they pulled the Superdelegates for her to beat Sanders who despite being a socialist most likely would have beat Trump because he wasn't as filthy as Clinton.

So Trump saw that and jumped ship to the other party. He's not as dumb as he makes himself out to be.
