What gives Walmart the right to set the age to buy a gun?

Yep, the top execs and board members of two massive corporations made a business decision that could potentially alienate a significant portion of their customer base and never once thought to check with their army of lawyers to see if it was legal.
Good thing we have these great legal minds here to put them in their place.

I'm certain you guys have another RELIC of an amendment that's let them do as they wish, said tongue in cheek.

Good on them (Walmart) for listening the majority, there is no need for anyone outside the military to owner use an assault rifle.... And 21 is a good age, for a minimum. Why your drinking age is 21 and you guys think that booze is more dangerous than a gun......REALLY ❗

Dick's Sporting Goods imposed a 21 Year age limit too.

They stopped selling AR-15s 6 years ago. The announcement was for the clueless media to blast all over the nation to other clueless people who need to think they're goody goody sporting goods store is doing something.

Many Walmoarts in CA have stopped selling firearms period. Our local store stopped selling ammunition until the new unconstitutional CA law could be figured out. Most Walmarts stopped selling AR-15s three years ago.

They did at some but not all and you're responding to a post about age limits so your reply makes no sense anyway.

The news now is they won't sell anything that looks like an assault weapon and they upped the age. they said they stopped the ar15's. Pay attention. The senility must really be kicking in.

They will also be not selling any more Infinite Range ICBM's.

By the way, how does Trump top that?

Infinity & Beyond Missiles?

I think he needs a bigger box.

The only problem I see with the 21 year old age limit is that we can send 18 year olds, armed, into war, to protect our country but we feel they can't handle owning a gun to protect their own home?

Wal-mart and Dick's can do whatever they want. There is a lot of liability in selling guns. I don't blame them for wanting to distance themselves from that.

What’s the difference between refusing to sell a rifle to a law abiding 20 year old, and refusing to sell a wedding cake to a gay man, in both cases you’re shitting on somebodies rights just because you want to.

If you're going to post this kind of stuff you should probably take out that MENSA lie in your profile. Just sayin'.

There is a difference. In one you are discriminating against someone, in the other you are just putting an age limit.

Eventually, the 20 year old will turn 21 and be able to go down to The Mart and purchase the weapon of their choice.

Walmart does not get to set the age limit. That is reserved for the legislature.

The same thing that gives Hertz the right to refuse to rent a car to a twenty year old.

There is no difference. Can they refused to sell donuts to fatties? Refuse to sell alcohol to a drunk? Refuse to sell beds to sluts? Refuse to sell sunblock to people who tan?

The answer is they can sell merchandise or not, but they cannot choose their customer arbitrarily.

Yes they can refuse to sell alcohol to a drunk. Most places they are required to refuse service.

And yet them and Dicks both did and most legal experts are saying they can. I'm sure your sharp legal mind will be quick to correct them tho.

So you and another person come into my store. I can sell the guy ahead of you in line a pack of cigarettes but not you?

If one is of age and one is not then that's fine. If we are equal then no. How does that apply to the story? They aren't saying only some, they are saying all.

Not if they are sober at the time of the sale. Replace drunk with "alcoholic".

They still can, it's not legal discrimination. You can refuse service to anyone as long as it's not for very specific reasons. And now you're gonna say age is one of those reasons but many lawyers much smarter than you have said it's ok. Why do you think you know more than they?

Since there’s no law as to an age limit for weapons purchases at Walmart, simply a cowardly corporate decision that makes no more sense than the schools present 1950’s duck and cover drills, who’s to stop someone from buying a Walmart rifle for a 19 year old? So long as the 19 year old has the legal right to buy it, the sale is legal, and it’s still a 19 y/o with a Walmart rifle.

And what if they also decide to not sell to someone because they’re 65? Does this blatant age descrimination also mean they now have a new legal right not to hire them as well. I expect the AARP would take that as a serious violation and win.
