Learn to duck and cover. We are fucked.
So it was a gun free zone except for the sheriff's deputy with a gun.
1) National BG check system with potentially dangerous mental patients, violent offenders, terrorist etc. names in there. With modern tech there is no reason why everyone can't communicate when there is a potential threat stirring.
2) Training. If you can't shoot worth a shit or demonstrate basic safety awareness and competency...you don't get a licence and thus do not get access to legally own/carry guns. That's the compromise for the "Shall nawt in-fringe!! If they can afford it stealth bombers with hot nukes should be free to buy!" folks.....it's shall issue because 2A but you still have to go demonstrate a basic appearance of sanity and competency before you go packing in public.
3) Compromise from the anti-gun trolls is once a person is checked out and gets a licence they get to roll with it. You can't have any of your vindictive "fuck you" taxes or restrictions on ammo, accessories, how many they can have or where they can carry.
4) End the war on drugs, sex and rock n' roll.... refocus that effort and start a war on illegal guns and violent crime.
5) Secure our schools, a totally separate issue from gun control altogether.
6) sit back and watch gun violence go into decline and school shootings drop off along with the body counts associated with them. Everyone wins.
BUUUUUUUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....we as a nation are going to keep with the "Fuck you buddy!! No fuck YOU !!!" gig and accomplish a lot of fuckin' nothing like a bunch of spiteful kindergartners on a heinous sugar crash after blowing off nap time.

I think that's what they call whataboutism.
That's fine, but you neglect to mention the biggest issue: the type of guns.
That's not the biggest issue, nor an issue at all.
You are mistaken, misinformed, and overly-emotional.
No. I care about kids dying. That's why I propose solutions (mental health care, on demand, without apology).
You don't care about kids dying, that's why you ignore all of my comments about why Syria isn't important to you.
I think the bill moving through Congress now, to allow nationwide reciprocity of conceal carry permits, whereby gun rights no longer end at state borders are about to happen, and the stampede of stupid from the left is doing wonders to make it happen. There's no rational reason for a policy that makes those who have gone to legal means with state requirements check their rights at a state boundary. Just like a drivers license, conceal carry permits issued by one state can and must by honored by all 50.
Lol, um, yes, that is EXACTLY the issue.
We would not be having this discussion if it were not for the AR-15 and all the other guns like it. Period. That's what it's all about.
It's basic, it's obvious, it's right in our face. YOu can stick your fingers in your ears and go "La la la la la" but we're not stupid. The problem is the GUN.
You are demented, selfish, and self-pitying.
We're not talking about Syria. We're talking about mass shootings in the US. Feel free to stop deflecting from THIS issue and start a new thread on Syria. Or puppies. Or cannibalism.
This is a side issue, because for me the main issue is 'How was it possible that they got hold of guns?'
I hear all these comments that they lacked adequate mental health care.
But - and far from this being an excuse - another common denominator is that those schoolchildren turned mass shooters have been ostracized or bullied or, in fewer cases expelled.

Was it an AR15 at Pulse?

The problem is not the gun. It doesn't just start shooting on it's own. The problem is with the human that has the gun.
We'd rather you just didn't visit or leave your guns at home.

I think you're on to something with that, and I'm sure it's not a coincidence that this massacre happened on valentine's day.
However, I think that "bullying" is a complicated subject as well.
You can't take bullying out of schools, because you can't take bullies out of the real world. If kids aren't prepared for the real world, what the hell are we doing for them in school in the first place?
Well, it depends on one's personality. I was lucky that I was neither popullar nor unpopullar, so I drew less attention. But if it happened to me at that age, it would have scarred me badly.
And people tell me that now it's much worse than in 'our days', with all the social media and school lunch cafeterias mentalities and stuff. And that schools aren't able to fully tackle it.
And that they are becoming less tolerant and quick to expel children, which goes on their record and can muck up their entire life.
As I said, no excuse for either those who made it possible for those kids to have guns, or for the kids taking it on others.
But it might explain why they felt so entitled to shoot at their school.
