High School Shooting In Florida

Why do our legislators think that a person though not mature enough to buy alcohol at 18 IS mature enough to buy a semi-automatic long rifle?

Because that same 18yo can join the military. That argument is really more for lowering the age for alcohol than anything.

I knew this would be one of the responses. Yes, they have guns in the military. In a very controlled and structured environment. They are not free to make their own decisions.

It's not about having a gun, it's about the job itself. they can go kill and die at 18 so they should be able to do everything else.

Why do people think that banning guns will fix problems caused fully and wholly by mental illness?

Fine. Veterans or active military personnel under the age of 21 can buy long rifles.

Still aint gonna work because our country says 18 is an adult so they get full constitutional rights. You'd have to raise the age of being an adult to 21 and I think a lot of parents might take issue with that.
Altho to be fair that's sort of an assumption on my part.

You're arguing that being alive isn't a civil right. Face it, you lost this one, no matter how much you resort to foot stomping and crying.

No I'm not.

You're making shit up and/or being dishonest.

And I haven't lost anything, you and the other anti-civil rights folks don't have the support to do shit.

LOL yea they are, most of them just aren't nuts enough to go shooting the place up.

How about 2A because YOU don't get to just take peoples rights away from them???

Good deal!

Why do people think that banning guns will fix problems caused fully and wholly by mental illness?

Because people with mental illness have a much harder time killing a lot of people if they can't access a gun.

And it works in a lot of cases better than access to HC because that's not a cure all silver bullet either.

I'm not trying to be a Trump apologist. It sucks that he loosened the regulations, instead of the gun restrictions that most parents were hoping for.

But I suspect that the measure includes only those with 'soft' illnesses that pose minimal risks, like some forms depression or anxiety.
I doubt that it includes people who believe that "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was for real.

Songwriter PF Sloan wrote some sneakily subversive stuff. I often play SECRET AGENT MAN on my mandola (tuned G-DAD). "They've given you a number and taken 'way your name" resonates whenever you punch in your PIN. But Sloan changed America with EVE OF DESTRUCTION, with just one line about young soldiers and the draft: "You're old enough to kill, but not for voting." That drove passage of the 26th Amendment granting 18 year olds the inalienable right (and responsibility) to vote.

Now twist it. "You're old enough to kill, but not for drinking." Will the alcohol industry push to drop alcohol purchase age? "YOU'RE 18! Enjoy all the drinking, voting, fucking, killing, now available to you!" Or, along with drinking, must kids have to wait till 21 to buy assault-type firearms?

One could similarly ask why one needs licenses for autos, dogs, marriage, and construction, but not for FUCKING WEAPONS OF MASS MURDER, hey?
_____

That's all distraction. Legal ages don't matter; kids and adults will illegally obtain booze, drugs, firearms, etc. Production, distribution, and possession of firearms in USA cannot be stopped or controlled. Too late. But carrying firearms in public CAN be controlled. Be a member of a well-regulated militia bearing arms to defend your nation; or be punished as a rogue.

What's an assault type firearm?

That's not mental illness. That's brain damage from the cold ... and the hockey pucks to the head.
Don't forget snorting crushed dried maple-syrup crystals. That sugar rush fucks up one's driving ability. After a Canuck driver whacked us in Whitehorse, I heard many there brag of their wrecks. "I had six crashes this year already!" "That's nothing, I had ten!" All had maple on their breaths, a sure sign.

I blame insurance. Only Gringos are forced to buy car insurance in Mexico, and if there's a wreck, cops jail everyone who hasn't fled already for a few months till things are sorted out or the right bribes passed. So most drivers in Mexico are careful and helpful. But Canadians are insured. They can smash-up repeatedly with no penalty. Beware insured Canuck drivers.

And "hockey pucks to the head" aren't the issue. That's what sticks are for.

What's an assault type firearm?
One that is marketed as such. We know actual military firearms are lean and mean, and the hardware we see in ads, festooned with expensive paraphernalia, is sold to gunpowder addicts (that's a metaphor) dreaming of being kickass commandos. Sort of like a Mustang convertible as a sports-type car. Not the actual thing but hey, it sells, and that's the capitalist way.

When you join the military you are issued a weapon, which they keep locked up most of the time because they don't trust you with it.

Why should you have to be 21 to buy it but not to buy the same gun without harmless accessories?

LOL you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

Because she's too stupid to understand that "assault weapon" = rifle accessories that look scary.

Its probably the guns.

I think it's the lubes we use to keep the guns slick and functioning. You know - processed animal fats and refined petroleum products. All those VOC chemicals probably rotten our brains within seconds of us fondling our first suction-cup dart gun.

Dear yanks, we have nut-jobs too... we don’t have high school shootings because they can’t get their hands on any gun, let alone a semi-automatic... as a result differences are settled with good old fashioned fights, which are occasionally serious but generally not... more often than not, there isn’t even a fight, cause frankly those things are a bit scary... so we just learn to let our rage simmer quietly and we grow up to be somewhat repressed adults...

Guns don’t kill people, cunts do but if you ban the guns it’s gonna be much harder for the cunts to do so... problem solved, you’re welcome, x
