You have the initial cost of the detector. From that point on, you have yearly upkeep and labor cost to run it. You have Federal Govt funding the first year to get it up and running. After that...it is peanuts in cost and the schools should be able to fund it.

I hate that the mentally ill get such a bad wrap after mass shootings. They face enough discrimination as it is.
Only a tiny percentage of the mentally ill will go on to commit homicide, and those who do have a specific profile.

Most of these criminals belong in jails, not in hospitals. Other than strong narcissistic, borderline and/or psychopathic traits, most of them show no other signs of pathology. Yes, some of them are depressed, but that part only exacerbates their distress; it isn't the root cause of their crimes.

It's much easier for these potential mass murderers to buy a gun than for the truly mentally ill. Because these future criminals present as normal, and only in hindsight people are able to place the pieces of the puzzle together.
