I agree with the sentiment but I hate when they use those pics of the scary black guns. None of those accessories make the gun any deadlier, just looks like it and the media plays it up all the time.
That rifle is exactly the same as many hunting rifles but nobody wants to ban hunting rifles. Just the scary looking ones.

The bill faced vocal opposition from groups supporting people with disabilities and most House Democrats, which would likely continue if taken up by the Senate. Throughout the morning, the House gallery filled with individuals who were blind and using wheelchairs, and protestors interrupted the final vote just before it began. The Capitol police dragged a man out of the gallery and removed more than a dozen people in wheelchairs from the gallery.

We implemented policies that prevent guns from (for the most part) getting on planes. Our children aren't important enough to do the same.

We talk of building walls at billions of dollars...and yet for half that...we can put detectors in EVERY school...and man them at $20/hr for one year. Kids aren't important.

I just spent the last 30 minutes contacting my US Senators and Representative. I asked for one thing...to start the conversation. Our children, have no say. They don't get to vote. Yet we as adults do nothing to protect them. Do something. Contact your US Congress and House members. Ask for a change. Our children deserve better.

That's exactly what needs to happen while things are still raw, because this too will be forgotten, just like the Sandy Hooks and Las Vegas massacres.

Citizens and residents should take matters in their own hands and write petitions and collect signatures to change the law.
Politicians are sold out to the NRA.

I have no problem with that but what would that stop? This school had an armed guard. He admits he never saw the shooter. Metal detectors don't stop anything, just give a warning. Guy wants in to shoot people you think he won't walk right thru a detector and shoot the guard first?
And just curious, why for one year?

What stops a person from going onto an airplane and killing people? If he wants to do that...he will...yet we don't see that happening do we?

You have the initial cost of the detector. From that point on, you have yearly upkeep and labor cost to run it. You have Federal Govt funding the first year to get it up and running. After that...it is peanuts in cost and the schools should be able to fund it.

It would cost 18 billion to try it. Total...for every school in America. If it doesn't work....try something else. But it is better than your idea of sitting on your ass saying we can't do anything.

I agree. But there's a problem with that. Most of those people are like drunks and addicts, they aren't going to avail themselves to treatment until they hit rock bottom and in many cases it's too late. The mentally ill would have to be forced into treatment and in many cases that treatment would require what would be the equivalent of incarceration. And that's where you run smack dab into the series of judgements handed down by the SCOTUS beginning in the late 70's up to the mid 90's. You can send your thanks to the ACLU over that.

Those SCOTUS decisions are what emptied the mental health institutions and put those people on the street. Those decisions are also the reason it's nigh on impossible to put someone in an institution and/or strip them of their rights, rights that include second amendment rights.

Cost of a F-35 is right around 100 million per unit. So to put detectors in every school in america and fund them for one year...it is 180 jets.

We have 348 F-35's in service today...

We can spend money to kill people...but we can't spend less money to protect our kids.
