What stops a person from going onto an airplane and killing people? If he wants to do that...he will...yet we don't see that happening do we?
You have the initial cost of the detector. From that point on, you have yearly upkeep and labor cost to run it. You have Federal Govt funding the first year to get it up and running. After that...it is peanuts in cost and the schools should be able to fund it.
It would cost 18 billion to try it. Total...for every school in America. If it doesn't work....try something else. But it is better than your idea of sitting on your ass saying we can't do anything.
I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense. People can't get on planes with guns because of a complex security system involving all different kinds of machines and hundreds of cops.
Unless you want schools to have that then the analogy doesn't work.
No metal detector is gonna stop anyone who wants in. Period. It'll stop those who aren't real serious but a guy wants to shoot up a school he's not gonna care if an alarm goes off and a guard is in the way. Unless you want the security points to be like airports and have them half a mile away from the school.
And I never said we shouldn't do something, I was pointing out what doesn't work.
