Broaden My Horizons Please... Musically

When You're in that Mood

When you're searching for something different. Not jazz, not folk, not classical, but something in between that offers a little challenge, try "Empty Room" by the Wolfert Brederode Quartet

When you're searching for something deeper--"The Beauty Of Dissolving Portraits" by Ambrose Akinmusire

how about antony and the johnsons' "i am a bird now"? its at least ten years old but still fantastic. antony has since transgendered and has another name that i can't remember. try it out.

Yes I do care. And intend on looking at the suggestions.

It just takes a few hours to do it. Between the holidays, making the necklaces, doing the new job search and some other stuff my schedule has been a bit tight.

I'm hoping this weekend I'll get a chance to sit down to this thread. If not, then sometime soon.

was always transgendered.... is now Antoni, and dont put any gender on um Antoni.

I don't know if this will fill the bill: slightly hard edge, but exuberant and uplifting - it's from possibly my favorite album of all time (it's the commercial cut).

Premiatia Forneria Marconi (PFM) - 'Celebration', 1973:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erOcHXaIZhA

A bit too discordant for my tastes, but thank you anyway.

Tattletale Saints - Sonoma County Wine

Also liked Complicated Man so I grabbed that too.

Never heard of them before. Very cool. Thank you.

Bill Evan's Nardis & Love Theme from Spartacus

Dave Brubeck & Paul Desmond "Fujiyama"

A very mellow Dave Peck, "I got it Bad and That Ain't Good"

Love theme yes, Nardis no

Fujiyama - too horny and in the wrong ways. ;)

Dave Peck - couldn't get into it.

Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes. Added.

Charles Mingus Big Band, "Good -bye Pork Pie Hat"

Never heard of him. I found a shorter one I liked. II B.S. Thanks!

Angel of the Morning - already in my collection.

Meatloaf annoys me.

Pretty sure I mentioned Liquid Tension Experiment before, but I can't remember the reply. 'Three Minute Warning' is great for prog rock with a touch of jazz instrumental lovers, but fair warning, it's a little over 28 minutes long.

Just not my thing.

Elvis - not a big Elvis fan and it's a love song to boot.

Ricky Martin - She Bangs - Yeah I'm laughing at myself on this one. I didn't care for Ricky Martin when he came out, but dammit the song kinda grew on me.

Matthews sings about God, booze and women. But not necessarily in the order. I'm particularity fond of "Bartender" as I like the religious over tones

I'd advise you not to talk to strangers

But, if you're in a need of a pic-me-up, old Tom just might be the ticket--"Hold on St. Christopher"

I'm not a fan of love songs, nor religion. And I quit drinking. I think that puts Dave Matthews in the pass pile. ;)

I do  Bette Midler and I added that one as I'd never heard of Tom Waits and it is a fun pairing.

But St Christopher... just say no to music with gunshots.

One Ricky Martin song is enough.

Do the hustle... hahaha, thanks no but it was a fun listen for a one off.

I despise religious anything.

Almost as much as I despise the posting of an endless string of blind links with no information as to group or title.

Lighten up Grumpus.

Kung Fu fighting was annoying when it first came out and it hasn't gotten less so. ;)

Dr Hook - Cover of the Rolling Stone - when I was poor I nabbed this from the peer networks way back in history. Now I'm paying for it. Gladly.

Michael Buble - Save the last dance for me... too love songy.

Sorry if I'm behind on the thread.

Start with 'Radiohead' "OK computer"... Then move up their calender for years and years.

Just a taste..

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1nFB-R-_gI

Radiohead - not hugely into their music really.

The link you gave was for Thom Yorke - Acoustic guitar of "the clock".

Goat - Hide from the sun... that was weird, not sure how I feel about that.

Lets put a little pep in out step--Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane: "Love For Sale"

Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane: "Love For Sale" - a jazzy little tune, added it

"Empty Room" by the Wolfert Brederode Quartet - wasn't sure at first but the more I listened the more it grew on me. I went ahead and added it.

Ambrose Akinmusire - dissolving portraits - I guess a bit too deep for me.

how about antony and the johnsons' "i am a bird now"? its at least ten years old but still fantastic. antony has since transgendered and has another name that i can't remember. try it out.

Antoni and the Johnsons - Bird Gerhl - added.

i'm guessing she don't give a fuck anymore, you weirdos.

june.

June - yes.

And Bouquet came on after that and I liked it too so it got added also.

Etta James - I got you babe - fun. Added it.

Harpoonist and Axe Murderer - Get Ready - wasn't sure at first but it kinda grew on me, added

-----

Whew! Another group down. Four hours later. Wowsers.

Thanks everyone!

ETA... it seems very fitting that this is my 8000th post. :rose:

May I suggest Whitesnake Live in the heart of the city. Maybe a little too hard rock but IMHO its the band at its best and early on.

Another suggestion is Transatlantic The Whirlwind. A very good modern progressive rock release.

I'm with you. I've stopped bothering with the links.

As for Dr Hook... If you could buy Revisited, thats what I'd get

For those interested in expanding into New Age, it can be a whole new world.

Just picked up a new 'Now Hear This' from A and among others, there is 'Journey' by Kelly Andrew.

Also picked up a collection called "Message From The Soul" by Deva Epica that has some great stuff.

then i give you my favorite autumn of the seraphs (the album bouquet is off of): good to sea

I like it. I grabbed it.

also, here come the warm jets mainly because i'm listening to it and this thread is still open in this tab. enjoy.

I'm not sure about it. There are parts I like however.

The next song that came on was weird - baby on fire? Yeah.

I tried the other but it was putting me to sleep.

Interesting album. Nabbed it.

Mockingbird Hill - a bit too old timey for me right now.

Blues Traveler - Hook. Already have.

LeAnne Rimes - Country Sweetheart. A bit too twangy.

Neil Diamond - America. Just not feeling it. Apparently he revealed he has Parkinsons.

Cher - shoop shoop. Not my bag. But it did remind me I wanted Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.

Adam Ant - Goody Two Shoes - already have.

I'm going to have to look into some of them, but not tonight. It is getting late. Reminds me of the music they play when you go to get a massage.

Oh oh oh... and I finally found My Terrible Friend - When I Decide on Amazon. I am excited. :D

i almost went with paw paw negro blowtorch by eno, but i figure the negro part might be problematic even though he was an actual person. also, that's the lead in to baby's on fire which should tell you something. namely, that brian eno is kind of a weirdo.

still, apparently eno isn't for everyone and not just because he produced a few albums by some shitty bands like coldplay and u2. and devo, but devo isn't shitty.

anyway, here's a song you'll hate by eno from the same album: cindy tells me

best with headphones so you can hear the guitar moving around your head.
