Broaden My Horizons Please... Musically

Saw this and it made me think of this thread.

I haven't forgotten it. I'll come back to it in a few evenings when I have a couple hours to sit down and go through it.

Pretty sure I've mentioned Noel Pointer before, but 'Noel's Song' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's time for an alteration in my musical universe. I'm rebuilding my car stick this weekend. I want upbeat music - nothing maudlin and nothing with a freakin' broken heart.

I am a fan of classic rock, 80s alternative Britpop, some pop (not too bubblegummy), old timey music from the 40s and 50s, jazz, some classic. I'm not a particular fan of harsh sounding music - harder rock, punk etc. For country, it depends.

I don't keep track of the newest and latest so I really don't know all what is out there. I'd love to get some suggestions. I'll take a listen to everything... even if it's not my normal, I'll at least give it a try.

Help?

Try not to refer to it as car stick (a car stick is more along the lines of a straight shift, stick shift, manual transmission or any type of transmission). Think of it as a radio or music.

Yes it is, but too love song-y. Thank you anyway. :)

and a cool instrumental by Duane Allman

I like this one but can't find it anywhere to purchase.

listen to anything by iris dement. she's an acquired taste but addictive.

Iris Dement - Sweet is the Melody. Added. Thank you.

This dream trio from L.A. was in the biz grind for several years with only an EP to their name and sprinkling singles here and there before dropping this wait-worthy, full-blown studio-mastered awesomeness. Cool synth-dripping ambient R&B with lush vocals. Came out in February of 2016, made many a Best Of listing. Prince cosigned them before he departed. I pop it on when reading from time to time. Cop it if you ain't got it yet. ;)

King - The Greatest - Added. Thank you. :rose:

"Crazy" came up on my MP3 player at the gym tonight at just the prefect time

Also, as a suggestion, "Please lift your skirt and some me your world"

Does Dave Matthews do any non love songs? I like the way they sound but after searching through a good half dozen plus of songs they are all love song-y.

Perhaps when you're at the mall and suddenly turned on by the lingerie at Victoria's Secret or that security cop in his uniform . . . and a flash mob suddenly appears out of no where

That was an awesome vid. :D I went ahead and grabbed a version of Ravel's Balero. Thanks! :)

Natalie Merchant - Carnival
Natalie Merchant - Kind and Generous

Added both. Grazie!

A bit too sad for me.

the dave matthews band? get fucked.

They need some non love songs.

palette cleanser.

strange.

I liked it.

Built to Spill - Strange - added

Natalie before she was Natalie

10,000 Maniacs - These are Days - added

Me and Natalie get along fine

An excellent suggestion

Good song.

Back to my roots; "Mona" by way of Quick Silver Messenger

I looked around through their stuff. I do like the one I have of them. I thought I'd find more. Unfortunately they have a lot of love song stuff.

With a very young Poppa John Creach and Jack Cassidy. Here's "Water Song"

Not quite my thing, but I enjoyed listening to it.

Just checking if you knew this one too

Yes, but not quite my thing.

Steel Panther

Erm... thank you no.

Sophie Hunger, "Shape"

I quite liked her.

Sophie Hunger - Shape. Added. Thank you. :)

Pretty sure I've mentioned Noel Pointer before, but 'Noel's Song' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is nice. I think I'll add it.

Try not to refer to it as car stick (a car stick is more along the lines of a straight shift, stick shift, manual transmission or any type of transmission). Think of it as a radio or music.

Welcome to the new world. My car has a USB stick. Ha. Now my Saturn which I drove for almost 20 years was a manual transmission and did not have a cd player but instead a cassette player. When I got the new car, I thought I'd be using the cd player. Heh. Nope. I use the stick - in my automatic transmission. :D

Pretty sure I mentioned Liquid Tension Experiment before, but I can't remember the reply. 'Three Minute Warning' is great for prog rock with a touch of jazz instrumental lovers, but fair warning, it's a little over 28 minutes long.

Don't Talk to Strangers

Does Dave Matthews do any non love songs? I like the way they sound but after searching through a good half dozen plus of songs they are all love song-y.

Matthews sings about God, booze and women. But not necessarily in the order. I'm particularity fond of "Bartender" as I like the religious over tones

I'd advise you not to talk to strangers

But, if you're in a need of a pic-me-up, old Tom just might be the ticket--"Hold on St. Christopher"
