Broaden My Horizons Please... Musically

This probably won’t broaden your music horizons but it’s special to me.. I started taking lessons early and one of their tricks was to teach students things they are interested in despite the mind numbing of Berkelee book of guitar which you learn later was more important than learning this tune
Anyway first tune I learned to play on guitar that I could play all the way through I was 8 and it was 1977

That is special. Thank you for sharing that with me. :)

I never learned how to play any musical instrument. It's quite impressive that you learned that when you were eight years old.

I started when I was six .i guess the original video game stick your kid with something to do era lol . Thier trick was to keep you interested in rock tunes after you started to lose interest ...I played really heavily till my 20s. Now it’s been a off and on thing for the past 28 years. Sorta like yoga for some people

Something I found today and really like.

Divide the Day ~ Fuck Away the Pain

That's a very interesting song. I don't think it's quite my speed but it has its own value.

I did the video games. And played pool. Excellent hand eye coordination, but absolutely no musical skill whatsoever. I don't think singing in the shower counts does it? :D

I hate, hate, HATE Proud Mary. I despise everything about it. CCR wrote it, Turner stole it. CCR did much better with 'Who'll Stop The Rain' and 'Down on The Corner'.

I like Seals and Crofts Summer Breeze though.

I also hate people posting links without stating the artist AND song title.

I was enjoying Proud Mary today while driving to work.

Jafo is full of sugar and spice and everything nice. :D

J.S. Bach ... Goldberg Variations
Ludwig von Beethoven .... late string quartets (particularly no. 13)
Beethoven .... piano sonata #21 (Waldstein) and #29 (Hammerklavier; Canadian pianist Leslie Kenton called this the most intellectually and technically demanding piece ever written for the piano)
Frank Schubert ... piano quintet in A major (Trout Quintet)
Frederick Chopin ... piano sonata # 2
Richard Strauss ... Salome
Dmitiri Shostakovich ... string quartet #8
Bela Bartok ... Bluebeard's Castle. (This is a bit edgy)
Sergei Prokofiev ... piano sonatas #2, 7, 8
Robert Simpson ... string quartet #10. (For Peace)
Alan Hovhaness ... symphony #2 (Mysterious Mountain). Ok, musically this may not have the stature of these other works, but it's a favorite of mine, possibly because after being seduced by this symphony for the first time, one of the violinists seduced me in another way (not exactly the first time, but the first time he seduced me, lol).

Do not expect to fully appreciate any of these works on a first hearing but the Schubert, Bach and first LvB offerings are perhaps the most approachable. Please PM me if you take up any of my suggestions and let me know what you think.

This dream trio from L.A. was in the biz grind for several years with only an EP to their name and sprinkling singles here and there before dropping this wait-worthy, full-blown studio-mastered awesomeness. Cool synth-dripping ambient R&B with lush vocals. Came out in February of 2016, made many a Best Of listing. Prince cosigned them before he departed. I pop it on when reading from time to time. Cop it if you ain't got it yet. ;)

And, when the mood strikes you

Perhaps when you're at the mall and suddenly turned on by the lingerie at Victoria's Secret or that security cop in his uniform . . . and a flash mob suddenly appears out of no where
