I recently stated (tonight) that I don't drink wine. That's not entirely true, I do enjoy a GOOD wine now and again.

Choices in wines are like belly buttons, everyone has one. But my favorites are;

In whites I like a Chardonnay. One of the most consistently good are out of the Clos Pegase vineyards. I was fortunate enough to stumble on their offering back in 1988 on an initial offering of $4/btl. A wine snob friend of mine picked it up at a wine fair in Napa that year. I get a kick out of those that tag a year along with the winery re. whites. Whites don't age worth a shit. they're like Beaujolais Nouveau in that respect.

In reds I prefer Cabernet Sauvignon. Reds do age well and the best I've had to date is a Mondavi 1975.;

Champagne? Dom Perignon, hands down. A retired German actress friend had cases in her garage. God only know's the vintage. Her 'Oktoberfest" 'Peach' parties were (in)famous.

Not going to argue about what YOU like, but what do YOU like?

I don't really like whites. It comes into the house as gifts or as part of collections and what not faster than I can drink it. It goes for cooking use in this house, (cooking use means pan deglazing, or when the recipe calls for it, etc., and I'll drink it while I'm cooking) although my wife's family will enjoy white desert wines.

I like Bordeaux style red blends from South Africa. They are mostly cabernets, but may contain fractions of merlot, malbec, Zin or Shiraz. Fruity and complex. I don't know if it's the style, or the fact that the African yeasts are different. My favorites come from the Stollenbosch region. I like most of them, but I think DeTorren and DeTrafford are the best wineries. I can never be sure about the best year, or age, but I think it's pretty good about 8 years old.

Champagnes we buy Moet White Star or Veuve Clicquot Yellow Brut.

Hey P1, best to you and yours.

I’m partial to Malbec, but tried a Shiraz last week that may be my next go to. A couple years ago at the Kenneth Volk wine tour in Cali I discovered Tempranillo. Yum. Had a different vintage last July and then lo and behold two weeks ago after looking at the local liquor stores there it sat on a back wall at the nearby Safeway.

I've lived in or near California wine country for most of my life.

I'll take whatever is local and tasty.

Right now.

Kinda the same with Washington wines.. Whatever is local and tasty..

If I'm to drink wine, I go pick up the bargain-basement brand, some fruit, some vodka and I make a stiff Sangria.

The more I drink wine the more I like the whites, but any wine is a good wine :)

I’ve not counted but it’s likely I drink 100 different bottles each year, red and white, from light to bold. If I had to drink just one, red would be Caymus Napa cab, white would be French Pouilly Fuisse.

I'd open that '75. They don't age forever. You may have a bottle of red vinegar.

Do you drink so you forget about killing your child in that drunken rampage all those years ago. That dumb bitch you knocked up still with You?
