The Trump tax plan

Crafters of the plan have placed the charitable sector directly in harm’s way. Our region’s most charitable and most vulnerable residents stand to lose,” said a statement released by leaders of the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Foundation.

Under the bill that both houses of Congress passed this week, standard tax deductions would roughly double from $6,350 to $12,000 for singles, and from $12,700 to $24,000 for married couples.

The jump means fewer people will itemize because the total value of their deductions would be lower than the new standard. That takes away some of the added incentive to give to charity.

The republican mantra is pretty much "MEEEEEEEEEE" sprinkled in with a hint of "and the people who paid the most in my last campaign."

that's a riot. Liberals don't give to charity. Conservatives do and they will continue to do so whether they get a tax benefit for doing so or not. if there's more money in their pocket because the government didn't take it from them then they have the same amount or more to give that they always had.

Yes, conservatives donate more to "charity".
If you change the question to who donates more to "help the poor", though, the answer is quite different.
How much do you contribute to "charity"? Do you think you contribute more than I do? Hmmm?

fucking LUNATIC

Skipping to the last page of the story first, the answer is neither: As two MIT political scientists determined in a 2013 paper, the inclination to give appears to have virtually no relationship to one's partisan or ideological views

"Liberals don't give to charity." No better way to prove that you're nothing but a worthless troll. Now GTFO.

Will the mental derangement ever end?\

If those organizations cannot attract donations based on the merits of their good works and instead have to rely on gimmicks in the tax code then they SHOULD FUCKING DRY UP AND BLOW AWAY!!!!!!!

You’re a riot too. Liberals Buffett and Gates alone will give more than every conservative you’ve ever met combined.

Isn’t this where AJ the Fatter usually steps in to remind us all how much he does for Haiti?

C'mon y'all, ya' know the world's biggest charity is the US Congress. Whatever benefits them is best.

That is one interpretation. Here is another.

By eliminating the Johnson Amendment (which prohibited churches from directing political activities and activism if they wanted to be tax exempt) they have unleashed a new torrent of dark money into politics right through these so-called "charitable donations".

Basically make the "charitable" donation, get a tax break, the "church" endorses the candidate from the pulpit, runs the GOTV drive and now you have a tax free field organization.

I predict "charitable donations" will reach new heights. Especially in the evangelical christian cults and the Joel Osteen style Prosperity Theology cults.

Penn Jillette said:
It’s amazing to me how many people think that voting to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping poor and suffering people is compassion. Voting for our government to use guns to give money to help poor and suffering people is immoral self-righteous bullying laziness.

People need to be fed, medicated, educated, clothed, and sheltered, and if we’re compassionate we’ll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. There is great joy in helping people, but no joy in doing it at gunpoint.

Just who do you suppose he is describing?

*points and laughs*

You were just about to tell us how much cash you give to the poor. The last time the question was asked what do you do for your fellow man your answer was that you have started recycling. Something that most of the rest of the planets been doing for 25 years

You're actually Internet challenging an anonymous someone online to Boast Bowl who between you gives the most to charity? Bless your heart, you poor thing. Surely someone around here has the empathy to invite your obviously sad and very lonely ego home this Christmas.

Oh, look, you're confusing me for another poster. Again. Color me surprised.

Don't you wish that your testicles had descended far enough so that you could have posted this under your regular userid?

But they didn't, and you couldn't.

SAD.

First boasting online how much more you give to charity than another, and now testicle shaming someone else? My. Can't you just stroke that poor, little ego harder?

Incorrect.

The numbers don't bear out this statement and the tax plan is not going to change that.

Conservatives make less and give more.
Democrats and Independents (myself included among Independents) have FAR more individuals among their numbers who give nothing than do Republicans.

Also, the US, as a Nation, gives far more to charity than any other able Nation and that amount is rapidly climbing each year. Personally, I think we give too much considering an $18 Trillion debt.

Charity is not a philosophically bad thing. It can be however, a crutch that willfully weakens its point of origin while enabling reliance and torpidity to the receiving entity if just handed over without oversight.

Alright so this whole argument is "People are being taxed less so they won't give their money to charity any more"?

That doesn't make much sense because almost every person who I know invests in a business to avoid taxes. People do this to get even more money back in the future, something that won't happen if they donate to charity.
