You'd be better able to fight back if you were armed.
That doesn't necessarily mean "armed with a gun" because Mace(tm) is considered a weapon in many jurisdictions and is banned. Knives, especially knives over a certain length (usually six inches,) are also considered weapons and are selectively banned in many jurisdictions.
IMHO, banning Mace, Pepper spray, knives of any length, or any other "weapon" is a violation of the Second Amendment -- as all are "arms" as the authors of the SA would have understood them.
