I remember wondering about that in first grade. We had the typical ABC border printed above the chalkboard. I could see no particular reason that the letters are in the order that they are, and being able to recite them in order is only useful if you anticipate doing a lot of filing.

At that time my query for the teacher was why is it that the vowels are not grouped together, or perhaps evenly spaced throughout the alphabet?

Sometime later, probably 3rd or 4th grade, I had an interest in cryptography. When I learn the frequency count (for the English language anyway, it didn't occur to me at that time that other languages would have other frequency counts) I wondered why e was not the leading letter for the alphabet.

I am not thankful that Charlotte, my porch spider, is no longer on my porch. Her web is gone except for one hanging end. I hope she's in the bushes planning a new web. I was getting used to her. I have two baby spiny backed orb weaver spiders in the next two bushes over but their webs are not in as good of a place. She was very good at eating the moths and other nuisance bugs.
