I usually put in a small garden from plants rather then seeds. Just a few things like tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. The problem is keeping the rabbits out. This year I've bought some of those Topsy Turvy hanging planter things.

I'm going to do my usual tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers, but this year I'm going to start from seeds.

Tomatoes are a no-brainer - some big ones for BLTs and some of the little cherry tomatoes.

Cucumbers are also decided. I get a heirloom variety that makes good pickles.

Peppers though... I'm wanting to grow the hottest I can find. Burpee has some Scotch bonnet seeds. They can get to half a million SHU, but what's the name of some other hotties?

I haven't been able to grow a vegetable for anything since I moved down here. No tomatoes, no potatoes, no garlic, no lettuce, no nothing. Damnable conditions for gardening produce in this state for the home gardener. They say that if one sprays epsom salts diluted in water it will help keep the critters away. I gave up quite honestly.

I'm happy I can get my silly ass roses to grow - had to go with the old southern garden roses but at least I finally have some roses now.

I wish you luck and happy tomatoes.

Habaneros are always good but I don't know where they sit on the scale. We make a pepper and olive oil infusion with them and the scotch bonnets.

I don't know why I do it, other then the magic of watching something grow, because produce here is all but free in the summer. Mr. Savage, the Elder, has used those upside-down planters for years so I decided to give em a try this time around.

Ghost peppers!

I couldn't remember that one on the last post.

We do all those things including Radishes and Lots of Bell peppers. Eat the hell out of some bell peppers with everything it seems. We usually do normal bananna peppers for chilli and even those can be hot, at least for me anyway. Have done potatoes before but for the work, many farms sell a damn 50 pound bag of the things for 8 bucks ( season just passed ) so I dont bother.. Of course same with Corn too.

Hope you have better luck with those Topsy Turvy things than I did.

I used to love growing potatoes. Take a potato from the pantry, cut it into pieces and set it aside until the eyes form. Plant them in a pot and when it's time for harvest just dump it into the wheelbarrow and dig through the dirt. Can't get much more wholesome than that. And no shovels. :D

Fairly easy to grow and yes there is the joy and satisfaction from your own garden, its just one of those things that is super cheap in these parts during harvest, of course, that could be said for all produce around here.

As a kid, I worked on a farm for a few hours after school. Digging potatoes was the worst job ever. Even worse then bailing hay.

And as a PSA: Stop growing zucchini! Nobody likes is, and nobody thinks you are doing them a favor by dropping off 50 pounds of the stuff.

I gotta be honest. I love zucchini bread.

I know a lovely recipe for courgette. As with my one beautiful recipe for kale, it involves making something healthy much less healthy, and therefore delicious.

I like kale, but you have to pressure cook it. Otherwise it's like eating sail cloth.

☹️ But I really like it. Grilled, sautéed, shredded. I make a great zucchini and eggplant stuffed pepper.

Also, since I can't pm you, I can't tell you who I am. So....I hope you are still cutting back on the coffee. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

The key is to let it sit with some salt to get the bitterness out of those types of veggies.

I love zucchini, I make amazing zucchini bread which is why I have people dropping them off....they get bread. Also the little green and yellow ones are great sliced up and cooked with peppers and onions and of course garlic. You can throw any genre of meat you care to eat in with them and freakin yum.

I don't care much for the average green zucchini, but there are other varieties of summer squash that are pretty good.

Mmmm love the zukes. I add to salads, make sautéed, bread, and spiral it and make those fake noodles as well.

Trinidad scorpions, Carolina reapers, Chocolate Thai.....pretty sure reapers are weapons grade.
