Great choice of starter bike.
There is NOTHING wrong with the 650 ninja or the equivelent Honda or Suzuki bikes
As longterm rides. 650 will achieve anything a 1000cc scoot will except top end.
The stock exhaust,a Re map and rear shock preload is all that seperates you from HOLYSHIT!! performance.
Ride safe and smile:)

I just got the chain replaced and it made a huge difference. The bike is so smooth and effortless now. I also changed the tires about three months ago. I got Michelin Pilot 4's and the handling improved dramatically.

Yes, it is a quick bike. Much more than people know. It gets up to speed so fast I have to be careful. Car people have no idea what they are missing.

I watch a lot of this guys videos online. I REALLY want to take my bike to do a track day next year. Marcel Irnie

Anyone who wants to post their fav bike YouTubbers here is welcome

I had a Yamaguchi 500 I wrecked in the desert but that was long ago. [/me counts] 40 years! I traded the parts for a paint job on my partner's pickup.

I'm glad to see you ride. My wife got her motorcycle endorsement in 1973. She has a 1999 Triumph Legend (900cc) with a Kenna sidecar attached. In 2000 we took a trip that covered 5600 miles, 17 states in 18 days. She rode a 1987 Suzuki Intruder (700) for that trip. It kept up with me and my buddy just fine.
I've got about 400,000 miles on two wheels and am still riding. Right now I have a 2013 Triumph Trophy. !200cc, 130 HP, shaft drive, triple cylinders, ABS, traction control, built in blue tooth and much more. i love that bike. In late September I took my last long ride of the season 550 miles in a day. One day i'll be to old to do that, but not yet, not yet.

everyone
i know who owns
or has owned
a motorcycle,
limps.
Long ago I worked as a civilian EMT and ambulance driver near a major military base in California's Mojave Desert. A major part of my job was unwrapping military motorcyclists from the trees and cacti they had impacted. A few unwary rock climbers too, and many seniors needing transport to major med facilities down around Palm Springs, but often the old "cycle down" call.

Then there was the outlaw biker gang in Kansas who were a John Birch Society chapter, but that's another thread.

Sold my Shadow back in '98 due to a very bad injury (not on the bike, fortunately), and kicked myself for so damn long for selling it. Missed the wind therapy very badly.

I decided to rectify the situation..:D

My bike has skis and a track
1000 cc can hit 100mph in a flash,
no traffic to worry about...works for me

SL100 to a XL500 to a 700S Honda to a VTR 1000 to a Tri Glide. :D

Yeah, pretty much.

After a long hiatus from riding (dirt bikes only), I finally bought a road bike. I shopped until I dropped and got a pretty fucking good deal, if I do say so myself. It breathes fire, farts, rumbles, backfires sometimes - I have learned how to do that on command, and it has loudpipes that are really loud. I gag it driving through underpasses.

I'm still learning. I may buy a full-size one day, but not yet. Not yet.

This is almost mine - really close:

I do, slightly.

I've noticed the very same thing and I struck up a lot of conversations that way. I only had the two bone-breaking accidents (two weeks apart) decades ago. Some of these guys have multiple near-death experiences.

I much prefer that kind of profile to the ape hanger look.

I saw a murdered out black bike today with minimal chrome and lay on the tank drag bars.

Can someone explain to my why 99.3% of bikes have to be loud enough to wake the fucking dead?

Mine has drag pipes, and a 98ci motor... loud as hell.

1. Taking mufflers out of the equation means more "flow" when adjusted
correctly. My carb is rejetted, and needs the extra exhaust flow to run correctly.

2. If you're within 300ft of my bike, you KNOW I'm there...and you're looking for
me. About the worst thing a bike can be while on the road is invisible, or
unnoticed. That's often how people turn in front of you, change lanes INTO you,
and a host of other mishaps that befall motorcyclists regularly.

3. It sounds cool :D

Personally I ride to many miles to have noisy exhaust. I tried it with a 2000 Victory Sport Cruiser I owned (until some asshole hit me from behind while I was stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk). After a couple of hundred miles I couldn't stand it.

When I bought my 1971 CB750 in 73 (used) someone had installed air horns. I found them to be a lifesaver. Every big on road bike I've had since I've installed air horns on. BadBoy makes a nice compact integral air horn/compressor that fits on a bike nicely. It tickles the shit out of me when someone pulls out in front of me, I lay on the air horn and they bobble around thinking a truck is about to run up their ass.

I've got to get one installed on my Trophy.

The pleasing sound is half the point. . .

That is awesome. I need that in the Prius.
