But I was especially struck by Flake's comments on the Senate floor:

"We must never adjust to the coarseness of our dialogue with the tone set up at the top," Flake said. "We must never regard as normal the regular and casual undermining of our democratic norms and ideals. We must never meekly accept the daily sundering of our country, the personal attacks, the threats against principles, freedoms and institution, the flagrant disregard for truth and decency, the reckless provocations - most often for the pettiest and most personal reasons, reasons having nothing to whatsoever to do with the fortunes of the people that we have been elected to serve."

To have a young buck like Flake bail on his position is quite telling. He knows there's change coming and he's going to let the old guard go down with Trump.

I put this in the other thread before I saw this one. C'est la vie. Copied it over here.

Text of Senator Flake's speech

9 hardest hitting lines

The overview:
  • Republican Complicity
  • Flagrant disregard for truth and decency
  • Degradation of our politics
  • Corruption of spirit
  • We know better
  • Such mercurial behavior
  • Nothing more devastating
  • Grandchildren to answer to
  • Our worst impulses

"We have fooled ourselves for long enough that a pivot to governing is right around the corner, a return to civility and stability right behind it. We know better than that."

"When a leader correctly identifies real hurt and insecurity in our country and instead of addressing it goes looking for somebody to blame, there is perhaps nothing more devastating to a pluralistic society."

"We were not made great as a country by indulging or even exalting our worst impulses, turning against ourselves, glorying in the things which divide us, and calling fake things true and true things fake."

Here's a link to his comments. Blistering doesn't even describe it.

I don't ever recall a Senator laying into a President like this, especially one from his own party.

And most telling was McConnell praising the speech.

Saturation point for Cheetolini's fuckery is finally setting in. Because it's fucking their shit up and they know it.

They can't just wait it out like they've been doing. Most of 'em know they only have a year left before voters start really draining the swamp.

Those bullet points don't come close to the power of his full comments.

It was a brutal take down of Trump and everything he stands for.

Without doubt... but I can't copy and paste the whole article. ;)

#AlertTheDaycareStaff has been rather amusing.

Interesting how nobody will just call him a liar. You see and hear ‘untruthful’, ‘non-truth-telling’, and ‘false claims’. When Il Cheetolini spouts his lies (and there were plenty Sunday and Monday, as Untruthful Donald was being interviewed and making appearances aplenty), nobody goes on the record calling him a liar.

False claims....

Both Corker and Flake are doing citizens a massive disservice by not running again. All they're doing it opening up two more seats for the Bannon machine to fill.

I am not convinced this is true.

Look at Moore in Alabama. That fucker was fired from the AL SJC TWICE. He thinks Obergefell was a worse decision than Dred Scott. He worked, successfully, to keep sections of the AL state constitution mandating school segregation and poll taxes. And he will replace Jeff Sessions.

The racist imbeciles are coming out of the woodwork and there are a lot more of them than anyone guessed, in every state.

"Liberals" are siding with establishment (ie big business capitalist) conservatives because they hate the populist, nationalist, people's conservative even more.

Oh well, enjoy your new friendship with these neo-con swamp creatures, they won't be around much longer. With the work of Steve Bannon and others, we're systematically pushing them out of the party and making it a populist, nationalist vehicle for the long term.

I've met both Flake and Kelli Ward, the doctor who is whipping him in the polls.
Flake dashed around our office in his tailored Levi's jeans, playing his role as the earnest, energetic and caring senator, and offered safe, dull answers.
Ward was all for draining the swamp before Trump decided to run for president. She was a leader in the state Senate but she couldn't beat McCain in Maricopa County.

The point for both Flake and Corker is that their constituents see them as being part of the problem. That's why they aren't running for re-election.
I'm not sure Ward can win Arizona, nor am I sure Corker's replacement on the GOP ticket can win. The signal from Republicans in those states, though, is that they are tired of electing candidates who say they are conservative but don't act like it when they get to D.C.

Said differently, those that are running for reelection are too chicken shit to do the right thing.

Senate Overturns Rule That Helped Customers to Sue Banks

* Republicans use Congressional Review Act to scrap regulation
* Reversal is big win for banks in war against post-crisis rules

Note that neither Corker nor Flake, nor McCain, voted to protect consumers. They're still scum.

Your use of null terms renders your comment meaningless.

They're still going to be the raspberry seeds in Trump's molars for the next fourteen months, and after that they'll be writing books and appearing on the news.

But they're still only rosy, corrupt pimples on Amerikkka's hairy ass unless and until they start voting against him.

I wouldn't say "demoloished". They actually made him stronger, his base rallying around him.
The best we can hope for is a few republican hypocrites will start to think maybe Flake and Corker have a point.

Well, I guess they don't want to waste their money. For instance, Chemtrail Kelli is leading in the polls in AZ.

I'm glad they could help let Wells Fargo off of the hook for committing thousands upon thousands of cases of fraud.

Republicans are pieces of shit.

Fearing defeat to Trump endorsed candidates, Flake and Coker decide not to run for reelection.

Wow, you're from Arizona? There are so many posters here on the General Board from Arizona.
