... and so it goes ...

Yes. Adults are responsible for what they post. Threatening hacking is not mere words.

You think they are not serious. Others - including myself - obviously disagree.

If you want to make a stance on free speech perhaps it would be best served in a different example.

If you want to make an argument about policing behavior, perhaps it is best applied to something the community can actually police. This is not one of those instances.

I do know one thing from what I've read - people have been bitching about how the GB has changed for ... well forever.

So I leave you with this thought: the more things change, the more they stay the same.

i should feel schooled, i suppose...

Seriously? Believe it or not, the only reporting I do is on Hash's multiple re-registrations. Sorry to mess with your whole narrative.

Speaking of maturity... grow up. Sorry, not sorry.

Lecture someone else.

Hacking is serious. Regardless if you don't feel it is. Your ignorance is not my problem.

Enough already.

Ya know I really believe in live and let live but...wtf, argue the post and not the poster.

I am done on that venue because some are here merely to antagonize others into name calling and stupidity.

Denny

and so it goes

Another day another group of words
words that mean a lot
Words that mean nothing
The dinner table calls
If what my wife cooked doesn't kill me
I'll watch some TV
The commercials should keep me awake.

and so it goes

The GB is now a better place.

Honestly, I couldn’t give a fuck if someone hacked me here. Nothing to hide.

Having nothing to hide isn't protection from some nutcase finding out where you live and showing up on your doorstep, or your job, or finding fun, long-distance ways to fuck with your life.

Clearly, you experience and remember Lit differently than most.

Which is all good and fine, as all put in and take away what they do.

What everyone (and by everyone I mean the ones whining) forgets is that we are all guests here. Our gracious hosts are not unreasonable in expecting all to behave like adults, and have even clearly posted some guidelines and rules to deal with the stuff they consider rule-worthy. How they choose to enforce these rules is at their discretion.

As guests, we should be appreciative of the boards and what they provide, and respect the few rules clearly there for all to see.

Or you can leave. Nothing is keeping any of us here, and I'm sure you'll be refunded - in full - every $ you paid for your membership here, should you find the place, the owners, or their rules a poor cultural fit.

Ironically, the guests whining the most about how the rules are enforced are usually the same folks who constantly piss in the host's ashtrays, shit on their carpet, and complain about the salmon pâté.

Nothing is preventing any of you from striking out on your own, and starting your own unmoderated, internet bastion of free-speech, free from rules and censorship.

We are guests here, of Laurel and Manu.
Their house, their rules. If you don't like it, there is nothing preventing you from leaving.

e,
you made great and persistent sport
of bashing hash with a relish and glee rarely seen here...

it was not without its great entertainment value...

it was also...
obsessive
compulsive
trollish
and inordinate...

he/she/it fought valiantly and compulsively...
until it broke...
forgetting that "all in good sport" meant...
hmmmmm?

what did it mean?

does your wife/dog/hamster/rumpled poster of farrah fawcett
know how much time and energy and devotion
you dumped into your
paki punching project?

we saw it. the paki broke from it...
and i suppose you "win" without threat of any consequence...

not spreading judgements, but...
there is context... and in the r/l... possible consequence....

make the bad paki go away - a button press away...
away from here...

but as someone once said...
there may be complicity in enabling such a beating to continue
and further complicity in whatever form its consequences might take.

a hornet's nest to own such a place...
close the boards
cleanse them...

we are not guests.
we are potential lawsuits and sticky ramifications...

we are also the lifeblood of the enterprise...
giving freely our written product and thoughts...

hmmmmm?

Honestly, I couldn’t give a fuck if someone hacked me here. Nothing to hide.

sweetheart,
i'd hack you in a second
if i wasn't convinced that my innate charm
could not still do the trick...

i suppose that could be construed as a threat in some circles...

Remember the good ole days when you could pee in ice cube trays, ya know, before refrigerators with ice makers.

Really, not worried about it. Nothing to fuck with here.

Hack away!

You have always been a good one in my book.

Ditto, Ms. Jezzi.

Please know, I have been hacked, I have beeen on the receiving end of ...ask in pvt i will tell. No big deal anymore. I am not afraid because that is how I choose to live my life. I love to share. I love showing my part of the world to others and am going to again because....Fall.

As for myself, I put Adrina (and a few others) on ignore awhile back. I already have a puppy that is enough to chase around providing clear direction to, and occasionally cleaning up after, and just didn't need her constant banal shit storm, and her 'feelings' finger constantly poised on the *report* button for the fact of my very existence.

Too many fucking 'therapy dogs' and 'feelings coloring books' make the GB a kiddie playpen, not an adult playground.

Isn't it great that we post on a message board where doxxing and hacking is held to be no more harmful than calling someone names?

Isn't it great to have your personal information spewed around here just because someone is offended by your position, statements or just the fact that you exist?

I've been here 15 years. In that time, I've been doxxed by
  • Hanns (employment)
  • Miles (kids, in-laws)
  • "Karen Kraft" (kids, siblings, in-laws)
  • Ishmael (he's got an entire dossier)
  • One of Que's alts (employment)

...all because they disagree with me.

They can't shut me up and won't put me on ignore.

just to be clear on this...
there is a difference within the tech community
between "hacking" and "security hacking"...
they do not mean the same thing...

In computing, a hacker is any skilled computer expert that uses their technical knowledge to overcome a problem. While "hacker" can refer to any computer programmer, the term has become associated in popular culture with a "security hacker", someone who, with their technical knowledge, uses bugs or exploits to break into computer systems.

your tenure here should have taught you

by the personal info one chooses to divulge...

it is the potential price of your free speech here...

here is a nugget:
early on, i became a fervent advocate for internet free speech
having been frivolously sued for critically posting...
( it was a seminal case in its day and... the rulings in it maintain)

well aware of the methods, and pitfalls and consequences
for exercising one's voice in this medium...
and understand that the term "free" in this type of speech
has to do with one's freedom to express oneself
but does not free one from any potential consequence of that expression...

doxxing is not new -
it's just sam spade work dressed in electrons...
one should expect to potentially be subject to what they might elicit...
...and you, of all here rob, should be quite (hands on) familiar with...
these wiles
and methods
and practices..., no?

so.

To put it even simpler:

A "hacker" is one who hacks into something to see and understand how something works in the spirit of learning and making things work better, without even an ounce of malicious intent whatsoever.

A "cracker" is one who hacks into something with nothing but malicious intent.

You misunderstand the etymology of the word hacker. It has nothing to do with hacksaws or hacking apart of something other than maybe hacking the last few paragraphs off of one article from last week and taping it to the article you're constructing this week.

Hacker comes from hack as in hack writer : somebody who reuses bits and pieces such as shots rang out," or " a dog parked in the distance," and other stock, canned phrases in order to compose a bit of writing.

A hack is a shortcut. The modern equivalent would be a cheat code.

Hacking is nothing more than having bits of code that you use for this purpose, or that, without having to write the entire thing from scratch every time. The hacking community traded these bits of code so that everyone didn't have to reinvent the wheel.

They didn't get banned for being "irritating." They were banned for breaking the rules repeatedly.

What part of that don't you understand?
