A lot of folks host through imgur lately. You can upload your pics...set to private album though....then send him the pic through the pm using imgur as an attached file

In a PM you can only hot link an image from a URL where the picture is stored.
There are many hosts out there, IMGUR is a good on as you can have a private album if you want.
The way you would do it is...
