Walmart Is Testing Grocery Delivery Straight Into Your Fridge
Fortune - 1 hour ago
Walmart (wmt, -0.62%) said on Friday it is testing a service with tech company August Home in which workers can bring deliveries all the way into your kitchen and even unload the items into your refrigerator and freezer in your absence.

You think I'm letting anybody in my house for anything when I'm not there, let alone a 'person of WM'?

Be still, oh my heart!

The nearest WallyWorld is 25 mountain miles downhill. We live a mile down a ragged dirt road. Wally won't be hauling stuff to us anytime soon. We don't even get cell signals here, let alone pizza delivery. Too bad the nearest roasters can't airdrop fresh coffee on us.

No. Just no.

But apparently McDonald's is offering a delivery service for when you (universal) can't get to them. You can get your Big Mac delivered like your pizza. :p

I couldn't believe the number of pizza shops in NY that had posters wanting delivery people...and wm thinks they can get em to put groceries away too...good luck

There is really no need for anybody to ever deliver a Big mac to my house

I've heard that the plan has been to give their employees the task of running deliveries on their commutes home.

ETA: The article says that. I should read links before posting.

Uber delivers Mickie D's here.

Here is not my house but "in this area". :)

Welcome to the new economy, where people have to pay for their own gas to do their job.

The Decline of the Western Civilization is here.

Twenty-plus years ago, McDonald's had a pilot program to test delivery in the area I lived. I worked for them in the call center. There were plenty of people who wanted McDonald's delivered, but it was a mess. It will come as no surprise that we fielded a lot of customer complaints about cold fries, missing happy meal toys, etc. I can't remember how long it lasted, but I'm pretty sure it was less than a year. Good times. :)

Definitely a step in the wrong direction. And rife for labor problems, WC issues and car insurance problems.

I am so not surprised. It's one of the first things I thought about - cold food and incomplete or messed up orders.

Pizza gets delivered, mail gets delivered. Most by independent contractors...why would this be different

I delivered groceries for Peapod that worked within a store, during my early 20s. After I left town I heard they ended up with their own warehouse, so they didn't have to be in the stores.

Here HyVee does deliveries for a pretty cheap price.

Its a smart business model.

I don't have a problem with delivery of groceries. There are times when I might like to do it, since I don't drive in some weather.

But they ain't comin' inside to load it in the fridge!

Labor issues: this is apparently after their shift but they're still on the clock if they're delivering food for the company. Who is going to keep track of the time and what kind of time will it be? Will it be from the time they leave the store or will it be clocked as just the time they're in the customer's house.

Workman comp issues: are they on the clock or not? Secondly workman comp has several levels which employees are classified as. Employees working in the store are rated differently than employees working out in the field.

Car insurance issues: they will be in their own vehicle but performing work. Most insurers these days separate out work use versus personal use. If they get into an accident with a policy for personal use it is very likely their insurance company will not cover them. Additionally Walmart will not be able to add drivers to their policy when the drivers are operating their own vehicles.

The other thing is, the delivery charge would have to outweigh what it would cost me to drive and get it.

The other thing is, I never buy a certain brand or size of anything. I shop for each item and get what strikes my fancy or what's on sale. That's usually much easier to do in store than on a website.

Also, even for sites I do buy from, like Lowes, I find that they don't list everything on the site. I find a lot of items in store that aren't listed on the web.

Because pizza delivery drivers survive on tips, mail carriers survive on pensions. Most people don't tip their uber driver, and most people won't tip their walmart grocery person. That means that these are low-wage jobs, that put a drag on social services. That's not a formula for a healthy economy.

Dollie

When I order Indian here it comes by taxi.
You can order an Indian and make him cum in a taxi? Can I get a Chief?
One of our sons gets all his meds delivered free by cab.

For over a year we've gotten two meals delivered five days a week. The lady walks right into the kitchen and puts the containers on the kitchen counter. She says hi and leaves.
I'm waiting for the day my husband is standing there naked. If he could still get erections he'd done it by now.

We got a washer and dryer delivered and put in a bedroom. We got a laptop and speakers. We got an electric fireplace and a few other things delivered free. Maybe we should check on grocery delivery. We are getting old and Walmart is only two miles up a new four lane highway.

Pete's Bra and Panties Delivery Service.

be sure to ask Pete about the two for one gstring offer!
