How about Florida?

I got power last night. Water running but still under boil alert. Lost some of the fence and a metal shed. But nothing major. And oh of course the temps had to be in the 90s. Thank goodness for a pool that was clean enough to get in and cool off.

Clean up mode today as much as I can. Not easy to recover and clean and keep one's frustration level in check. I think I need an iced coffee - lol...... does McDonald's deliver yet?

Hope everyone is keeping safe and all will be back to normal soon.

So glad you checked in. I was really worried since Irma looked to be visiting you instead of me.
Got a 5 pm first clean up over at the little cemetery tonight.
I'm trying to do what I can and still keep the pain levels down and recovery going.

So I finally get power a week after it went out. It's been a fucking nightmare week. First Irma decides to fuck Florida up the ass (and me along with it), then we get to suffer the aftermath. I lost four days of work (and I'm paid by the fucking hours), so that means a short paycheck next week. Plus I lost everything in my fridge and freezer, so I guess it's rice and beans in my diet for the foreseeable future. Not to mention trying to sleep was like sleeping in a fucking sauna! At least the cable and internet came back on. I was getting bored entertaining myself with fucking shadow puppets. I picked a hell of a lousy time to quit drinking

Yeah, I know, be thankful for what I have. At times I just find that harder and harder to do. I did do a lot of reading, I guess that's something. I was trying to remind myself why I still live in Florida; then I remembered it's because my ex doesn't live here. I suppose that's a good a reason as any.

I'm glad you're OK!:rose::rose::kiss:

Dollie

We hated leaving Florida for Illinois. But at times like these and memories of nights in shelters this place seems fine.
Glad most of you are okay. We still have friends and a son in NW Florida so worry.

We see most of this is still here. https://i.imgur.com/bW5Yvz2.jpg

I'm hearing everyday more & more people are getting power back but I'm also hearing a lot of complaints that the out of town electrical helpers are doing more sleeping & lazing around then actually helping to restore power.

6 days without power for me. Street over had it one day after the storm. Every one a live and well, so its all good.

Power outage here in Broward county the day after Irma when FPL kept hitting the lines and we kept hearing the pots booming at the end of the block. Fourth time they did it we lost power and it took them 9 hours to get it back. Knocked out the fuse on my hot water heater= fucking cold showers for a couple of days until a new fuse could be located.
Only lost power on Sunday from 4:30, when the wind direction changed, to midnight when I bolted out of bed because lights and fans woke me up. But lost cable/internet at the same time and didn't get it back until J called them Saturday and lost his temper. Amazing that we had cable 2 hours later. One block down still doesnt have power and there are quite a few Seniors there. People have run extension cords across the street for some without. Really cool to see the neighbor helping neighbor.
All in all, damn lucky here. I can replace a couple of roof tiles and the dead fence is already sitting curbside.
If anyone needs something and I can possibly help in any way, please post here and let's see what happens. If I can't, maybe someone else can.

Interesting. Heard complaints from another local lineman that 'foreign national" (not really his words!) FPL crews screwed up more that the OOT linemen had to double back and take care of. Indiana took care of restoring our block.
I'm sure everything will be analyzed and over-analyzed in this next few years if Maria doesn't come up the coast first and screw everything up again.

I'm not surprised at that. I've heard more then my fair share of similar complaints from local electricians I've known.

After Wilma I spoke to a number of out of town crews who did nothing but complain about the "fucking antique equipment" FPL had in use at the time.

7th night without power. Just got home took a cold shower had a hot meal
(steak-n-Shake) And hooked up my mobile hot spot so I could stalk I mean talk to people on here.. ;)

It makes me laugh when I hear folks complain about hot temps & cold showers, then the power comes back & it's "Yay! hot showers & cold AC!"

I don't mind cold showers I work in the heat. But no power and Having to fill the generator in the middle of the night sucks!!

I'm in NC, and have been where you are now with regard to the humidity without power, and refilling that generator (may one day be there again, we're both in hurricane country). Good news is it eventually comes to an end, and you will survive this. Could have been worse. Hang in there.

Ya I'm thankful for what I have. Lots have a lot less!!

Yea I know what you're sayin'. It sucks but like coachdb18 said, it's temporary. Hopefully it'll be another 10 - 15 years before we get another major 'cane.

So far so good...But they seem to be more coming and doesn't look like there ready to stop.

Peeking in....

Well it was 3 straight days of no power here but we've had it down a few times as they switch over temp fixes to permanent. The main complaint is yes I heard here was the local (Duke Energy here) didn't even have a clue let as lone proper communication on what was out for the non-local linesmen. We had awesome teams here from Indiana, Illinois, Texas, & Canada. There was also some BS by Duke the first day that they were told to stand down after so many hours because they refused to pay them even tho FEMA was covering the bill.

Im still helping on tree damage at a little local cemetery here. Half of us helping to get it back together are handicapped.

FEMA has a number to call and they will help cover replacing the food lost. I'm not sure how they set the amount but it's thru SNAP. If you or anyone want the number just let me know.

I was in Key West last week for a market. What little I saw of Key West, they weren't hit as hard as I thought & they cleaned up pretty quick. But it's all the Keys before that were hit hard. By the time I cruised through the roads were cleared but there are huge mountains of brush, garbage & long lines of busted up appliances along the sides of the road.

We're having another big clean up at the cemetery on Saturday.
I sure hope we have some new people who will come out to help.

I hope you're putting all that dead brush to good use as in, building a big pile, throwing some gas, tossing a match & whipping out the tofu dogs. :)
