Has anyone here used MoviePass?

I've never even heard of it until recently.

Apparently you pay $9.95 a month, and you can see a movie per day, for every day of the month. Sounds almost too good to be true.

Does anyone know about it?

Is there any downside to it?

It's pretty big news. They used to be $49.95 a month, and recently dropped it all the way down to $9.95.

Once everyone found out, apparently their website crashed.

Some theaters aren't too happy about it either.

I'm just wondering if it's legit.

I get most of my movies from TCM.

I have free HBO for life, but it's always the same movies over and over and over...

Hollywood makes movies that it wants to watch and be lauded and awarded for.

Every once in a while, they throw out some mindless CGI for the deplorables to fund their "projects."

I'd rather spend three hours watching History Channel 'picker' reruns...

I've used it and it worked perfect. No problem finding theaters near me or using the card. I think it's a total bargain. I just have to use it one time a month and it pays for it's self. I just wonder if/when they'll realize they're losing a shitload of money on me. I go to the movies like twice a week.

Hey, thanks!

I don't go to the movies as often as I used to, but my mom goes weekly. I was thinking about getting the card for her.

By the way, do you know if it's true that theaters really don't want you going with other people that also have the card? I read somewhere where they might not want you sitting together. It didn't make sense to me, I didn't understand how they would stop people from doing so.

I haven't heard of that or had that problem. My friend and I both got it recently. We've gone to the movies together, purchased our tickets separately, and selected seats together, and haven't had a problem yet. We've only done it twice, though. I have read online that there have been some snafus with the lower price and increased traffic to website with all the new members.

I think it would make a really nice gift for a movie lover.

I also live in a city with hundreds of movie theaters near-enough to me that I can easily travel to have lots of options, so that may be another consideration.

Hey, thanks for your feedback, Psyche.

I'm in a city with loads of theaters, too, so it shouldn't be a problem. I noticed that the card was accepted at most, if not all, places. I'm not sure how the companies make their money by doing this, so we'll see what happens. Hopefully it'll be around for a while at least. I know it was like $50 a few weeks ago, and then they lowered it to $10, and that's how I found out about it trending everywhere.

I'd use it if Podunk accepted MoviePass, I go enough to make it worth my while.

I downloaded the app and it wants me to sign up before finding out if my local theater honors it. I can FB message the theater, I'll see what they say.

Hope it works out!

Think about it, you could see 30 movies a month for the price of one.

What a great country! Thank you Donald!

That theater airs 2 movies, and they're usually there for several weeks. The other theater airs 3, but the franchise is from Outside.

Hmmm it shows both theaters as good to go, still going to wait and see if my FB gets a response from the owner. How do they make sure that someone doesn't borrow your phone to use the app?

You should be good to go then.

I'm not really sure what you're asking about the phone. I do know that you can only see one movie per day. They have some way of keeping track of it through the debit card.

I assumed they scan your phone app...? Say Joe Blow friend uses your MoviePass, can you lend it out?

I don't know, I don't have one yet. I'm assuming you can lend it out, I don't see how they could stop you. It seems all they want is the debit card when you go to the theater.

When I downloaded the app they wanted me to sign up and use my credit card, I did not. I was thinking the app is what is scanned.
