Most of the time the gb has a bad reputation for being a rather snarky environment.

But it does have it's redeeming features.

Or has the gb indirectly helped you in that you can vent here and get a load off?

Yes - in many ways.

Providing information including links to useful sites about obscure subjects.

Giving me plot bunnies for some of my stories, and information to use in those stories.

Showing me that idiots and ass(arse)holes are everywhere irrespective of country or political bias; and that conversely intelligent discussion can take place between political opponents.

Giving me many pictures of cats, guns, cars, ships and of course breasts and other parts of attractive female bodies.

Yes. I've learned some more obscure prejudices and insults that have helped in daily life, though happily IRL they seldom occur. That's given me a better understanding of people who push those views and conjecture at why they do it. I'm interested & grateful to see how sane, intelligent people deal with them.

I've learned to take nothing at face value and doubt everything on the web.

Other than that - seen some nice ships, I think the small boobs thread is here. Oh and tall buildings, muslims, SJW, Alt-L & R, teh

Yes. Had a few giggles, I interacted with some nice people, learned a few things that I wouldn't have been able to on my own.

It all came with a heavy price, unfortunately: internet addiction.

As an early adopter of and one of the people involved in the introduction of the internet for home use (in Canada) , the Geeb reminds me of the way the internet was in the beginning.

I spend increasingly less time uploading to the internet as it becomes increasingly commercialized and download-centric.

Lit, imo, remains true to the internet's original values.

the gb has been a source of entertainment, information, enlightenment (occasionally), but more than that it's shown that geographical borders mean little when you have access to the internet.

i have had specific technical help from several, (most especially iman and byron) when my pc messed up some years back for which i was most grateful. it's been the place of some good friendships and insights.

above all, it's been the place where i've met good people, and thanks to 2 of them in particular i was able to access much needed information which enabled me to get my very first passport! i've met good, real people off board, and though i met my husband on the poetry forum and not the gb, lit is the place and holds a dear spot in my heart.

I've met and interacted with a wide variety of special people on the GB. Many a lonely or confusing time in my past was sorted with the help of GB or people I met here. It wasn't on the GB but GB associated that I met my dear sweet one.

I have a couple friends who no longer post here, but I am still in touch with.

The GB seems similar to a really shit pub i used to frequent years ago.
Depending on who was there and how close it was to giro day,
You could have a laugh a fight and potentially leave with a fuck,a cheap(slightly 2nd hand) stereo,counterfeit Ralph Lauren shirt or cut bag of quick depending on how you played your cards.

I started reading the GB more after seeing the snarky sense of humor of a few GBers. I came for the snarky wit and stayed for the friends I have made along the way. So, I guess it has helped to enrich my life, although I seem to be missing out on all of the phone boning.

Reminds me daily of what people can be when they don't have to talk to other people face-to-face. It's the original, basic social media. In many ways, it shows you the honesty of their souls in giving them the leeway to be completely fake.

It's a good distraction from the day-to-day and work.

It reminds me that racism is alive and well, and still needs to be fought and marginalized. I don't encounter many missing-link Neanderthals in my daily life, so it's good to be reminded that they exist, and they're why we have a sketchy russian supported president.

There was a time when there were some really cool people posting smart ideas on here, but the low-info racist idiots have pretty much scared most of those posters away.
