Trump might pardon

Arpaio's history of enforcing the law (even to the extent he overdid his enthusiasm for its enforcement) is enough to earn him consideration for a pardon.

There was no gray in his view of the law. It was black and white, you either obeyed the law or you went to jail. The fact that the world changed around him after the fact only merits his conviction to be in the same league as Tom Horn's. The difference between Arpaio and Tom Horn is that Arpaio can be pardoned and live to tell about it.

Except when it came to his own acts. Then it was 'I'm above the law, don't question me'.

The fact that the world changed around him ...

... and he didn't change with it was his downfall.

By law his job was to enforce the law that is true. just as true is that a judges job is to interpret the law. So if he had such a black and white view of what the law represented, why did he defy the judges ruling? He did it because he thought he was THE LAW, enforcer and interpreter all wrapped up into one. He thought he knew better than the judge, so decided to do what he thought he should do rather then follow the law. Arrogance and narcissism embodied. The Donald pardoned him because he saw in Joe a kindred soul. Both think they are smarter then anyone else and should not be fettered by rules that they don't believe in; even if it's the law of the land.

And your analogy of Arpaio and Horn is nonsensical. One is not even close to being like the other.

Donald Schickilgruber Trump hasn't actually pardoned him yet, has he? If/when he does it can be added to Muller's list of obstruction of justice charges.

So, by your own words, every chief of police or sheriff who defies Federal immigration law should go to jail. As should every City Councilman, Mayor and County representative.

Oh wait, you LIKE those people and their defiance. You believe they should be supported and honored as SJW's.

Like everything else you, and your mentally confused brethren, don't understand the picture so you talk about the paint on the wall it hangs on. And then only because you like the way the wall texture doesn't clash with the drapes in the next room.

There's talk (45 apparently has retweeted the possibility himself) that 45 will pardon Arpaio when he goes to Phoenix next Tuesday (unless he acknowledges that Phoenix's mayor has asked him not to show and stays somewhere safe from the ire of 70 percent of Americans). Each time it looks like 45 can't be any stupider, he goes there.

Sheriff Joe said "You do the Crime you due the time" he ignored. The judges ruling therefore
He should do the time unless the rules are changed for certain people
You know the Special People.

And don't forget Gov. Moonbeam.

Rumor says it ain't'a gonna happen.

He laid the hint on with a thick trowel at the Phoenix speech that he was going to do to it, but everything else he said in his Phoenix speech was playing-to-the-room lies, so who knows?

And don't forget Gov. Moonbeam.
If you're referring to California Gov. Jerry Brown 1) it's a different state than Arizona, and 2) in his first terms, Jerry promoted a satellite news system, an idea Ted Turner snarfed, and started CNN, y'know? Kind of moon-beamy, sure. But Ted got Jane Fonda while Jerry got Linda Ronstadt. Who won there? And back in Arizona, Sen McCain only got a beer heiress. Sad.

Trump did pardon Joe. He'll be joining Trump's cabinet next week, probably.

Having lived in CA for the last 57 years, I am aware it is a different state from AZ. My recent reference to Moonbeam was a response to a post suggesting many elected officials could be arrested for ignoring or violating immigration, and I suggested the gov. of CA could be added to that group.

Did Moonbeam ever marry Linda Ronstadt? I know they were "an item" during his first term as gov.

No, they never married.

Arpaio set up an actual concentration camp for his inmates. It's no surprise to me that he gained Trump's respect.

The sheriff repeatedly violated court orders. Tromp has never been much of a fan of an independent judiciary -- he prefers judges ruling HIS ways, although he's had to settle about 3500 lawsuits. Damn, the court system is so bothersome!

Anyway, Tromp despises justice. I expect many more pardons. Whomever Mueller indicts will be pardoned -- but then they'll lose 5th amendment immunity. If they lie or withhold, they'll have to be pardoned again, and then again, and again... We'll see matryuskha-nested pardons in coming months.

Arpaio has claimed that his violation was unintentional, therefore he is innocent. An innocent person can't be pardoned, so Trump's pardon is a verdict of guilty.

Trump was wrong to pardon Arpaio: Paul Ryan

President Donald Trump should not have pardoned a former Arizona sheriff who was convicted of criminal contempt in a case of racial profiling, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, said on Saturday.

Trump announced on Friday he was pardoning Joe Arpaio, an anti-immigration hardliner found guilty last month for flouting a 2011 court order that barred officers from detaining Latino motorists solely on the suspicion they were illegal immigrants.

“Law-enforcement officials have a special responsibility to respect the rights of everyone in the United States. We should not allow anyone to believe that responsibility is diminished by this pardon,” Ryan said in a statement.

“The speaker does not agree with the decision,” Ryan’s spokesman Doug Andres said

Ryan is not pleased!

The big debate here is whether we are seeing a criminal pardoning a fellow criminal, or a racist pardoning a fellow racist.

They're both 'truthers' too. It's like a club. They can skip along together, holding small hands together, and singing (in rough unison):
W-We belong to
A mu-tu-al-al
Admiration society
(My baby and me)
Just look at the little cuties, our sweet fascists. We see the criminals, the racists, the truthers, the fantasists, the tough-looking poseurs, two rather elderly javelinas (wild boars) stumbling across dessicated desert landscapes, to their destiny, far beyond the blue horizon...

Alas, they're pursued by determined javelina hunters armed with powerful weapons. Who shall survive, and for how long?
