I've been asking this question since I was about 10 years old, but its getting so ridiculously hypocritical now you would think it would reach the unsustainability point eventually.

How can the majority of people, of all ethnic backgrounds, not see what a hypocritical double standard this is?

A vehicle struck protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, after police dispersed a gathering of white nationalists on Saturday.

Charlottesville police tell CBS News at least four people are injured. CBS News' Bo Erickson reports at least six people are on the ground.

A dozen medics are carting the injured back and forth on stretchers. The victims appear to be counter-protesters but could be residents, CBS News justice reporter Paula Reid reports.

The injuries range from minor to life-threatening, authorities said.

"A car appeared to deliberately mow down pedestrians," eyewitnesses tell Reid.

He was probably right. White people do get brutalized and abused too, and this was my personal experience when I lived in Oakland. And black merchants and professional men were not. It's a matter of social status and gender, rather than race.

Um, the cartoon character said he had NOT been brutalized. The point made by Cobb (brutal lefty political cartoonist who later set-designed CONAN THE BARBARIAN) was that cops stayed busy brutalizing folks who were NOT old white guys in suits.

The usual scenario: underfunded police act like occupying troops in hostile territory, focusing blunt force to keep the non-affluent (mostly non-white) community contained if not controlled. I too worked in Oakland some time back. The only white folks I saw cops harassing were scruffy street people.

So yes, class is involved. But let's try a thought experiment. Take two couples, conservatively dressed and groomed, one couple black, one white. Let each couple walk down sidewalks on opposite sides of a city street. Do you think one couple is more likely to be stopped by cops and ID-checked?

Well, I do now. The initial report I heard this morning was not very concise, so I stand corrected. It didn't say the protest was basically over....that said, they still have someone in custody so we don't know much at this point.

Truly a tragedy, I just wish the violence would stop.
