Artwork tied to my stories query

Hi!

I've recently started commissioning artwork of some of my characters from a variety of my stories over on the site 'Hentai Foundry' and I'm trying to think of the best way to allow my readers over here on Lit to view the art I've commissioned and honestly, I'm feeling a little stuck. On the one hand, I don't want to upload the art myself and take any thunder from the truly wonderful artists I've commissioned so far, but at the same time, I'm worried posting the links in the comments of my own stories will cross the no self-advertising rule.

Am I wrong? Am I missing a third option? How do I share my pretties .O. Xx

To my mind, you should make sure that whatever text "notes" you include should indicate the artist.
I suggest you put their contact details in your sig line, and make sure you have PM switched on.

You're right that you can't post links to the images in your story. No non-Literotica website addresses are allowed on story pages. ( Even fake website addresses )

Since you're saying "Artists" I'm assuming that the images are going to be scattered across several pages with no central link. That makes adding the links to your Bio problematic ( limited characters ) and irritating if you keep having to edit it with each new completed image.

You won't be able to use a forum post as a repository for the links either, because that's a gray area at best concerning the off-site links. However, you could PM Laurel and ask for clarification on that. Asking in advance of something in the gray area may very well get you permission to proceed.

Really, your best option is your own website/blog. That way, you can put a single link in your Bio to the site and update the page with new images/links when they become available. There's probably going to be a cost involved in that, though. Most web hosts won't allow adult content without a paid hosting account, and the same holds true for the blog hosting sites.

Because the work is commissioned, so long as you can prove that through the artists in some way ( a note on the page with the image saying it's allowed to be on Literotica in work under your pen name would be easiest ) you could also present them as an illustrated story. Of course, you'd need a story where each character image was relevant.

The process for submitting an illustrated story is a bit time-consuming and not terribly intuitive, but it does have the advantage of creating a Lit link you can then use in the notes of other stories.

According to the FAQs, that wouldn't be allowed:
https://www.literotica.com/faq/11022303.shtml

"Like all other submissions on Literotica, images must be your original work - i.e. comics you created, or paintings or drawings that you yourself painted or drew. Please do not submit photos or other images you have found elsewhere."

But I don't know if that was intended to cover cases like this where the OP has the rights to the work. I agree that the best approach is to PM Laurel, explain the situation, and ask for guidance.

(And make sure that you *do* have the rights to use it in this way - I'm not sure that paying somebody to create art and give you a copy automatically gives you the right to republish it.)

Someone voluntarily illustrated a few of my stories that are posted here. The most I did with that is put a link in my story file profile to the publisher's Web site where the illustrations are referenced to the stories posted here.

Commissioned is allowed. Silkstockingslover has been posting illustrated stories with commissioned or permission-granted images for a while now.

One example.

It's just a matter of proving in advance with no ambiguity that the artist has given permission for the images to be used in an illustrated story on Literotica.

Thanks, I learned something! Another poster PMed me to say the same thing, so I guess that's good news for the OP.

To avoid liability, what the Web site should require is verifiable proof provided by the artist him/herself that reuse permission was given (such as the artwork being posted to the artist's own Web site or to one of various Web sites where artists and photographers park their work to sell it). The author wouldn't need only a statement that the artist gave permission; there had to be some sort of proof that the artist owned it. That isn't the easiest to provide. But this Web site doesn't appear to realize the extent of it's liability as a publisher, so maybe less would be required.

It's hard to do fancy things.

I'm in the middle of a story that has videos that go with it (because I'm nuts). Best thing I could think of was to leave the URL to my youtube channel in my profile description and hope that maybe people will see it.

Informative stuff. Best of luck with your commissioned art!

Personally, I've often wondered about including maps, for fantasy stories. Not that I've done any extensive digging, but it's an obvious case where an expandable image would be an awesome addition.
