Expectations are a bit too high ?

Friday, I caught a news bite, featuring the contraption with a replication of a shark's fin, meant to be fitted on a human being's back. Michael Phelps was present. I continued my clicking towards a PBS channel. I later speculated that the shark fin contraption might improve his swimming speed. I did not stick around to watch the whole segment. If I did, I would have learned about the "shark race."

Today, I find out that people had expectations that a real, live, Great White shark would be present, in the race.

If these people are in the habit of watching the Discovery Channel, and are fans of Shark Week...

Why would they expect the program to endanger and exploit the creature, for a stunt ?

I heard that it wasn't actually a shark, but a computer generated image of a shark which matched the speeds of one. I don't know if the speed of the shark was rigged to make Phelps lose or not. I also heard that a lot of people were upset by that.

I think they use bait and speed boats. It's always difficult with any aquatic animal since you really can't tell if they're going all out or not.

Sharks are just plain huge. Barracuda never frightened me. But the Goliath Tiger fish. Now that is one scary looking set of gnashers.
