Senate GOP bill defunds Planned Parenthood for one year

Oh sure it will shit on a lot of peoples parades.

What I'm saying is that shit ain't my problem.

Actually it will end up being all of our problems.

You don't live in a bubble. None of us do. This type of stuff effects us all in the long run. To say otherwise is nonsensical.

Explain how exactly this is going to shit on my life, specifically me.

Just saying it will doesn't make it so.

It's a systemic thing. Like insurance fraud. We all end up paying for it. Whether it be for increased taxes because of increased welfare rolls or prisoners or decreased ease of access to medical care because of the loss of a care provider. These things are hits to the system that end up effecting us all in ways from minor to major - just depending. Outbreak of HIV in localities that have closed down clinics results in an additional cost handling it. That's actually happened.

You can go philosophical or scientific or economic - you don't get out unscathed. No one does. It's the nature of the beast.

The American people elected a Republican president, a Republican House & a Republican Senate.

Planned Parenthood will be defunded.

He wasn't elected, let's get that straight and he didn't win not even close to the majority.

You delusional right wingers need to stop acting as if most of the country supports him.

Well then, don't bitch about women having unwanted kids and going into welfare.

Depends, really taxes because welfare, you and yours sending the government to fuck me out of my life so you can get a slice of it seems the only thing you might get on me.

But that's happening anyhow, federal and state.

None of that is really my problem or effects me.

Only the government fucking with me about it. If it becomes to much? I cash out and leave.

Socialist just won't let it.

Well....let's just hope you guys loose the power to do much about it before you can achieve your goals of making me pay for other people fucking up. Or I get out before you parasites do me in.

And taxpayers already don't pay for abortions. The good war is won. This move is pure, pathetic spite. If it's all about saving babies then why de-fund Planned Parenthood entirely? They also provide prenatal care, you know, for unborn babies. Women depend on PP for more than just abortions. This Republic of Gilead policies in its infancy, nothing more than trying to control women.

Men should be against this for more than just moral reasons, but also pragmatic reasons. If the GOP war on contraception and women's rights makes it harder for women to avoid pregnancy in the first place and the GOP line of "don't have sex you worthless slut!" wins out, guess what? More women will be choosier about who they have sex with.

All y'all men out there are pragmatically biting yourselves on your asses. But this is also morally bankrupt on a hundred levels before we get to that aspect.

They are too stupid to know that there are also many women who also depend on PP for birth control in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and other menstrual irregularities. Why is this important? Because menstrual irregularities can lead to endometriosis which can also lead to Ovarian Cancer.

But hey, Right Wingers HATE science, logic, and reason.

It's all about THEMSELVES. But they don't have the brains to realize society doesn't operate on an island, every thing is interconnected.

Their brains are simply not wired to handle such information.

I'm sick of being polite, they are exhausting.

There was a very interesting chapter in the book Freakonomics that went into this very thing, how increased access to abortion likely lowered crime and welfare rates. I don't k own if the authors were correct, but the argument was very compelling.

And screenings for cancer among other things.

PPH prevents more unwanted pregnancies than it will ever perform in abortions.

I tend to believe it does. It's very logical at its core. Less unwanted children, more resources, more effort into each individual child etc.

There are actual studies done by the WHO that document exactly how the quality of life improves - society wide - when women have access to the full suite of family planning services. Whether people like it or not abortion is good for women, for children, for families, for society, for the economy etc. Down the line.

That's just really sad. Wow. I'm sorry, but wow.

That I don't want to pay for other peoples fuck ups? Seriously?

How is it sad? Why should I be punished for not fucking up by having to pay for other people fucking up?

There is a difference.

Well... Widespread abortion - ie sex without lifelong consequences - has a lot of negative consequences too. I am not convinced either way. The problem is, people are too emotional about this issue so every study seems to start with a thesis then seeks to prove it. I don't think we will ever know for sure whether we are better off with it or without it for this reason.

No. That you are so inclined to be so disconnected and judgmental.

Actually I think it's pretty clear cut that the world is a better place with access to abortion. Whether it's for an ectopic pregnancy or for a woman that already has four kids but the condom broke/BC failed. And we'd definitely be worse off without it. Think of population growth in exponential terms if nothing else.

People are too emotional about it. And too judgmental. They get all squeamish. It's just abortion and it's just a medical procedure. And a needed one. The only thing that ever really needs to be said about abortion is that it's up to the individual woman and I trust her with that decision.

I don't see how this could possibly be a problem.

We are repeatedly assured that abortions are only 3% of their procedures. They certainly spend more than 3% of their budget on lawyers and lobbyists.

Simply excise (heh) those expenses and there will be more than enough fungible fundage to dispose of all of the "unwanted" (by "progressives), (disproportionately minority) "cells" before they become actual what you refer to as "burdens on society."

It isn't clear cut at all. It is clear cut when you only examine the data points that support your view. If you examine them all without bias, you may see things differently. For instance, you say "just" as though it is a forgone conclusion that there are no negative effects to having an abortion. There most certainly are. I myself am pro choice and will not change my stance in my lifetime, but I also would like our country to have an honest dialogue about it. We don't. Lefties talk like it is removing a tumor, and righties talk like it is akin to putting a gun against a babies head and pulling the trigger. Both are wrong and do a disservice to women actually contemplating what to do in their situation

Abortions aren't covered by federal funding.

If you want to get into "fungible" (oh fucking christ really) go see funding to Israel and their government funded abortions.

What is covered are things like cancer screenings, annual physical check ups, birth control, UTI's etc. Basic medical services.

But in your judgmentalism you'd deny these basic services because you can't deal with the concept of abortion - something you'll never need.

The overwhelming vast majority of women do not regret having an abortion. Yes there are some that do. However the government is not and should not be in the business of protecting ourselves from our decisions. Abortion is a life changing decision - it's not "no big deal". But to treat it with kid gloves because of that is equally ridiculous.

Life isn't sanitized.

It's probably our similar physiques, plus we both walk with a hint of a limp.

"Well, obviously! ...As soon as I sat down, I thought I was looking in a mirror." Danny DeVito in "Twins."

I don't understand how what I am disconnected and judgmental for wanting everyone to pay for their own shit.

I don't really want to do psych 101 with you. Re-read your own words. Hint: It's not really or even just the "wanting everyone to pay for their own shit". Regardless of the factual realities of that statement.
