In many ways the 1948 election was like the 2016 election.

The Usual Suspects discounted and dismissed Truman. The polls were certain he's lose. Every prominent pundit rosined Dewey. And Truman won, plus the GOP lost Congress.

What it looks like is reporters stayed home when Truman went on road trips to the heartland, and interviewed each other. Elites cant care less what average people do and think.

If you examine great failures, most of the time prominent elites are behind the wheel of the debacle.
