Climate continues to change.

Of course- burning fossil fuels increases the rate of carbon dioxide.

No one knows what the effect of that will be;anyone who pretends to know what the effect of that will be is a fucking liar how can I make that any more clear?

Climate is very complex. Even basic weather is complex. Carbon dioxide is one of the most minor potential variables.

The only thing that we know for absolute certainty is the effect observed in the lab of how climate would change based on carbon dioxide and has never happened in the real world which means what happens outside the lab is being affected by other systems outside the lab. Those things are unknown. Pretending they're known is idiotic.
Global surface temperatures are increasing. Mesospheric temperatures are decreasing. CO2 is heavier than nitrogen, so it sits on the surface and lower troposphere, where it prevents heat from the sun from reflecting up to the mesosphere.

Really, it is so simple a child could demonstrate it. Oh, look. Here's one now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0kIaCKPlH4

We have long established that you know nothing about statistics and graphing so let's keep this to simple arithmetic.

Tell me exactly how much carbon dioxide will cause what increase in temperature.

What latitude? What barometric pressure? What height above sea level? What humidity level? What windspeed, direction, level of turbulence and cloud cover? What's the albedo and texture of the surface?

Idiot.

NO ONE knows the answer to my question for ANY set of variables. You're just throwing some shit against the wall hoping something sticks.

YOUR hastilly googled variables are for WEATHER. Which has nothing to do with climate change.

Yes, they can. There are experiments with repeatable results that show that the increased CO2 in the air is caused by burning fossil fuels. Not wood, peat or cattle farts. Exclusively fossil fuels.

Experiments? Yet you continue to fill up your vehicle (s) with fossil fuels. You throw the light switches to illuminate your life. You adjust your thermostat to keep you comfy. You turn the faucets on to provide you with sustenance and convenience. Every fucking thing you use everyday, all day, uses energy to make your life comfortable. Not one of you fakes has the balls to go off grid and provide for yourself without creating the evil emissions.

Does man contribute to to the CO2? Absolutely, but even if we went totally fossil fuel independent, one massive volcanic eruption could erase all your well wishing. The earth does what it does. Maybe we are between ice ages. Wind, sun and wave energy are all great things to strive for but we are not even close to providing for all our needs and comforts at this time with those.

I applaud the hard working energy workers that make all our lives comfortable and convenient. Until you are off the grid, providing for your own self, quit denigrating those that provide what you take for granted.

EPA chief denies carbon dioxide is main cause of global warming

Soon after moving to slash his agency's budget and staff, Scott Pruitt, the new head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), said on Thursday that he doesn't believe that the human-caused buildup in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations is the primary contributor behind global warming.

These statements go beyond his previous expressions of doubt regarding mainstream climate science findings, and indicate that the person responsible for regulating carbon dioxide does not believe that this pollutant is much of a problem after all. Pruitt's comments put him at odds with the conclusions of his own agency's climate scientists, who have found that carbon dioxide emissions endanger public health and welfare. They also run counter to the findings of climate scientists around the world, who have found that the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas has vaulted the level of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere to the highest levels in all of human history, and likely longer than that.

Carbon dioxide levels are now above 400 parts per million (ppm), up from the preindustrial level of about 280 ppm.

Blah, blah, blah Canadien spam.

Don't you ever get tired of listening to yourself?

There is nothing wrong with using energy, dumbass. We only need to stop using fossil fuels. Coal, oil and natural gas use needs to stop. Fill your car with ethanol, and use sustainable energy to run your AC as much as you like - it doesn't matter. Burn wood and leaves without a care. None of that changes the carbon budget. Only the burning of coal, oil and natural gas is causing the rise in CO2 levels and global temperatures.

It would be a massive volcanic eruption that released a billion tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. On average, all the volcanoes in the world release 100 to 300 million tonnes per year, less than a third of a billion. Fossil fuel consumption adds 67 billion tonnes per year to the sky.

I know that truth can be embarrassing. Some call it inconvenient. But wishing doesn't make it go away. At some point, truth has to be faced.

One of the proposed large scale metrics of civilization itself is energy consumption (Kardashev scale). Now, it might be possible that metric has a very narrow application, if we find that machines become more efficient, civilization stops expanding outward, population growth becomes population decline, etc. But phrodeau makes a very good point, I think, that energy is an enabling technology, and there is nothing inherently wrong with using it.

Thoughts on geoengineering? There are small scale experiments being considered and enacted by governments and institutions. I wouldn't be surprised if by mid century global remediation and geoengineering schemes will be part of the conversation. Longer term, humans might take active control of the climate.

Did you know that coal is used to supply many electric plants in U.S.? Gas is often used in peaking power for electric companies. How many cars are designed for 100% ethanol usage? How many of us can afford it? Where are these service stations for such usage?

Geothermal is good stuff. Ethanol means converting croplands away from food production. The biggest use a car gets is driving back and forth to work. And then sits in a parking lot for 8 hours a day. If you get stuck in gridlock traffic daily it is your fault. You decided to drive to work, you decided to live in the burbs far from work.

Empirical evidence human produced CO2 is contributing to glbal warming and climate change.

Direct observations find that CO2 is rising sharply due to human activity. Satellite and surface measurements find less energy is escaping to space at CO2 absorption wavelengths. Ocean and surface temperature measurements find the planet continues to accumulate heat. This gives a line of empirical evidence that human CO2 emissions are causing global warming.

Yes, I do know all of that, and it is sickening that Trump walked out of the Paris Agreement.

Ethanol means converting croplands away from food production.
Climate change means Canada can grow more crops. The trend toward vegetarianism means less demand for livestock, so less cropland devoted to feeding them.

Frodough, what will happen to the world's population now that Trump walked out of the GW circle jerk?

Can't answer. I understand.

Nope we run out of soil after a few more miles north. Going to take a bit to get two crops per year out of Canada.

Speaking of inconvenient, how is that wood burning car of yours doing? Just curious, if it has leaf injection, can you do burnouts and wheelies? That would be cool as fuck. What is your mileage per cord? Also, educate me on how you do your awesome posts here when using ALL this clean energy that is so available? I'm embarrassed but I only have energy that is available 98.2% of the time. Oh wait, it really is available 100% of the time. Lol.

And p.s.
Al's sister, why are you advocating killing trees? Innocent trees mind you, I thought we were supposed to hug them? I'm so confused.

We're nearing the inflection point for carbon emissions, but investments in the energy sector outside of hydrocarbons aren't quite in line with what needed to stave off the most severe consequences of climate change. I'm glad to see the forecasts are taking into account the plummeting price of solar.

Global Power Sector Emissions to Peak in 2026

By 2040, global emissions are expected to be 4 percent below 2016's levels, but an additional $5.3 trillion investment in renewable power would be needed by 2040 to keep rising global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Linky.
