One wonders how, with all of the sophisticated technology packed into today's Naval vessels, two modern vessels with satellite navigation equipment can collide in the middle of the ocean.

US, JAPAN SEARCH FOR 7 NAVY SAILORS, PUZZLE OVER SHIP CRASH

YOKOSUKA, Japan (AP) -- U.S. and Japanese vessels and aircraft searched Saturday for seven American sailors who were missing after their Navy destroyer collided before dawn with a container ship four times its size off the coast of Japan.

The USS Fitzgerald was back at its home port in Yokosuka Naval Base south of Tokyo by sunset Saturday, its crew lined up on deck. The Philippine-flagged container ship was berthed at Tokyo's Oi wharf, where officials began questioning crew members about the cause of the nighttime crash.

Unless he loses his ship.

And is named Kennedy.

Then he gets a medal.

:D

And not a peep from Trump. If seven sailors had died and Obama didn't say anything for 24 hours, the RWCJ would be screaming about how Obama hated the military. Still, at least Donald has time to Tweet about his appearance on Hannity, that's much more important, right?

The navy is falling to pieces with the big orange Don in office. Incompetence seems to run rampant these days.

The American destroyer was in Japanese waters and collided with a Filipino ship. President Trump never got around to nominating a Secretary of the Navy OR an Ambassador to Japan, so it fell upon the Admiral in charge of the Pacific fleet to formally ask permission of the Japanese government for assistance from the Japanese Coast Guard and for anchorage permission at Japanese docks.

Did you see the video of those five giant hoses continually pumping water out of the destroyer.

#MAGA

to be fair, missing doesn't mean dead

besides, in the hierarchy of political outrage accidental deaths don't rate as highly as combat deaths, as stupid as that sounds

This was reported no later than 10:30 this morning, I assume EDT.

Thoughts and prayers with the sailors of USS Fitzgerald and their families. Thank you to our Japanese allies for their assistance. https:/*******d1l5ctjNyB

At least they got a tweet

I am suddenly less concerned about Trump telling Duterte where our submarines are. He was probably way off.

Although the media portrayed the collision as the US Navy's fault, if you see where the US Naval ship was hit you will conclude the freighter's navigator is to blame.

You must have voted for trump "not my fault"

Not sure how you figure that.
Determining pecking order for give way or stand on way boat includes the vessel's ability to maneuver.
I'm fairly certain the Fitzgerald was the more maneuverable of the two.
9,000t displacement vs 29,000t

And even though the Fitzgerald had a duty to give way, even if not initially in the wrong, it's entirely possible they were entirely wrong from the get go. The location of the damage could easily be explained by a last minute recognition they were in the wrong and an attempt to maneuverer clear. Or an officer panicking and giving the helmsman an incorrect command.

Well, ya know, the Philippines are being overrun by Islamic Extremists, so maybe this wasn't an accident after all?
