When I heard about this, I was astounded. Not at the cessation of US support for Cuba's military, but at the fact it existed at all.

If you read the article you linked to you wouldn't be confused by "US support for Cuba's military".
You'd see there was no such thing.

Under the expected changes, the U.S. will ban American financial transactions with the dozens of enterprises run by the military-linked corporation GAESA, which operates dozens of hotels, tour buses, restaurants and other facilities.

So there may not be any direct aid, but a lot of American dollars go to the Cuban military, instead of the Cuban people, for whom it would be intended.

So again, it's not US aid going to the Cuban military. It's American individuals paying their bills at hotels, restaurants, etc.

According to the link, they are run by the military, and the profits go to the military, although some of the employees may be civilians. And, the patrons are required to go there, rather than having a choice.
