In all the chaos and crap the news likes to report, did anyone notice that not one major news group online mentioned that today was the anniversary of D-day? I guess following the tweets is more important? Sad!👠👠👠Kant🌹
To the fallen - you aren't forgotten. Not by me.

D-Day was in 1944. This is not a round-number anniversary, so I wouldn't expect the media to mention it.

Surprising zero mention of date on news. Typically CBC gives a nod to Juno beach on the 6th. Becoming very old history, I guess.

V-E or V-J day for most memorable day. D-Day led to them both.

20,000 Canucks went ashore that day. 1000 were killed or wounded.

Our eternal gratitude.

Nah. Civil rights in America had its own engine with roots that started waaaaay before a D-Day was popping off.

I don't know. The desegregation of the US armed forces during WWII was a huge step for US civil rights. IMO black serviceman deserve more credit than just helping win the war.

18 year old kids stormed that beach.

Today they need safe places from harsh words.

True, but the civil rights that made desegregation possible started before WWII.

And when those black servicemen came back, they had a LONG way to go to get the full rights and acceptance they thought they were getting due for their service. Jim Crow was still in effect, they couldn't get the same bennies the white servicemen got, redlining, all the deep entrenched social shit...nah, D-Day wasn't the greatest day ever for a good deal of people here. There's nothing wrong with remembering and paying respects for battles fought and won, but keep it in the lane it belongs in.

Hey we can agree on one thing. I'm disgusted with many young males that call themselves men.

eeeeehhh...I don't know about all that...

Might wanna peep the days certain civil rights laws were ratified for certain citizens of this country...for starters. ;)

Parts of one nation's history surrounding a skin color, genitals, or ancestry is more important than defining moments of a world war? I'll agree that the civil movements have their deserved spot in history, but that's not even on the same scale.

I guess on the plus side this generation's girls have less to worry about when it comes to domestic abuse because they can probably beat up most of the 'men' these days.

Everything we have we owe to the brave men who took part in the invasion. I'll always be in awe of them.

. . . didn't happen until 1948. The Navy was desegregated sooner -- if they were going to let blacks in at all, ships with all-black enlisted crews would have been impractical -- but black Army men who fought in WWII fought in all-black units except for the white officers.
