Anyone else like a tragic ending?

I love a good tragic ending to a love story and I often write accordingly. I can't help it. I blame my parents for getting me hooked on opera's like La Traviata and Lucia di Lammermoor. Anyone else feel the same way? Why or why not?

I've got one story that definitely ends on a sad, tragic note, and a handful that end with ambiguous endings where the characters may or may not all be dead. Sometimes, that's the right fit.

I'm not sure I'd say I like tragic endings but I do like quite dark, fucked up endings. I'm an incest/taboo connoisseur and my ideal ending for a story in that genre (although, to be fair, I do like different types of endings) is for the incestuous relationship to be really destructive and damaging. I think my perfect story would end with the two family members basically despising each other, their personal relationship completely ruined, but still they can't stop fucking each other. The sex is still amazing, even though their lives have been pretty much destroyed. The incest is almost like a powerful drug with terrible side effects.

I'm not sure why I like this sort of thing...maybe I need to see a therapist...

When tragedy strikes at the end of my stories, it's because it makes sense for it to happen that way. The heroine's locked into an arranged marriage, or - the hero committed serious crimes and has to pay for them. That sort of thing. Once I finish some of my current stories on here, there won't be as many sad endings.

Sounds like a girl I lived with a few years ago;)

I was down-voted because this story:

has a sad ending. Several comments and emails from readers indicated that their votes would have been far higher with a happier ending. (It's running around 4.7.)

The story had to end that way because ... it's what happened.

It's as much a love story as it is a hard-core group sex story, with swingers and twin sister incest.

I grew up on Twilight Zone and Night Gallery, so naturally I like dark, twist endings. Not necessarily always tragic, but certainly on the darker side.
