For months the threat level in the UK from ISIS inspired terrorism has been at SEVERE - means an attack is highly likely.

There is only one higher level - CRITICAL - which means attack expected imminently.

We have been told that several substantial ISIS inspired attacks have already been prevented/foiled this year. As the IRA used to say "The security services have to get it right every time, we only have to succeed once".

We in the UK have been told frequently that a successful attack will happen sometime, and that ISIS's territorial losses in the Middle East means they will switch to terrorist attacks in Europe.

This attack was not unexpected. That doesn't make it any more devastating to the families involved. All we can do is keep trying to prevent and deter further attacks. We won't always succeed.

Russia was more ISIS inspired terrorist attacks than the US but keeps quiet about them. They blame the Chechens but Russia has many Muslims in their country and bordering it.
