Is Bernie, Nancy or Chuck demanding an investigation?

After championing the $15 minimum wage in their party platform, Democrats are facing a class-action lawsuit over failure to pay overtime. Field workers in various states are suing the DNC and state Democratic parties on the grounds that their 80-90 hour work weeks in the heat of the campaign qualify them for overtime payment, rather than their agreed upon salary of $2,500-$3,000 per month.

Field workers are plentiful and cheap, so Democratic operatives are naturally arguing that the plaintiffs don’t have a case because the supply of inexpensive labor allowed the party to pay them so little. “The number of young people who want to work on campaigns is infinite,” Democratic consultant Neil Oxman said. “The kids are working on campaigns because they love Michael Nutter, or they love Hillary Clinton, or they love Bernie Sanders. Pretty much everyone who works a campaign knows it’s not the best-paying job in the world.” His statement inadvertently explains why the Democratic “fight for $15” is economically ridiculous.

If a multitude of people are willing to work at what Democrats call a “starvation wage,” then it makes sense for the DNC to pay them just that. (Whether their motives are “love” for Democratic candidates or connections and resume enhancement is another topic.) However, attorney Justin Swidler, who is bringing the case, called that move “obscene.”

According to the suit, the lack of overtime pay violated labor laws, and many on the anti-establishment Left side with the plaintiffs. “There is no question that campaign organizers performing the duties described in the lawsuit are not Exempt from overtime provisions of the FLSA,” said progressive writer Amy Sterling Casil in a lengthy Medium post. She also blasted the DNC over news that its host-committee executives were paid bonuses as high as $310,000, figures that have many on the far left melting down.

Big wigs get bonuses. Workers get fucked. Politics is just business.

Hourly workers? Agree to 3000$ a month then just do 3000$ worth of work. At 15 and hour that's 40 hours a week. Piece work is different. You agree to 3K a month and then find you are getting 5 bucks an hour. Might be your problem.

Be interesting to see if they win.

Not bad pay for being campaign worker. Bet a migrant fruit picker gets less for more work.

Another DNC legal issue...

That is the question at the heart of a class-action lawsuit charging the Democratic National Committee with fraud, deceptive conduct and negligent misrepresentation over the course of the 2016 primaries, in which Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was defeated by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the Democratic ticket. Jared Beck, a Harvard law expert and one of the attorneys backing the suit, has demanded the DNC repay its donors and Sanders supporters for contributions made throughout the election, citing a misappropriation of public funds.

^^^that would be awesome.

Giving that judges are lawyers, and lawyers are overwhelmingly contributors to the DNC it would never happen. It will get assigned to a friendly judge and dismissed.

Most of the lawyers I know are Republicans.

Most of the lawyers I know are Republicans.

The DNC is the firewall against meaningful tort reform. All of the lawyers I know live like Republicans, support local Republicans and are (misnamed) "social conservatives" but support Democrats nationally.

Same with the academics I know, but it's a conservative State. With them its about the power of the almighty Federal government to borrow to funnel triloions down the rat-hole that is the industrial education complex. If only we make professors and adminstrators just a little more wealthy as they pass out more and more dumbed down, worthless degrees, the country will prosper.

I'm not sure why Wingnut Nation likes tarring educators and academics with that tired old brush, when it is acknowledged that the US has by far the finest higher education in the world. Yes, there are some useless degrees awarded, but why do you care? I don't ever hear your ilk complaining about the shoddy plumbing and electrical work some tradesman deliver on a regular basis. Your world would be a lot less convenient were it not for graduates of MIT, Stanford, Harvard, CalTech, etc, etc, etc.

Because those trillions of dollars in student loans are never going to be paid back. It was a giveway. Just like the housing bubble, and the ACA insurance bubble.

A mainstream media blackout? Imagine that...

‘Total blackout’: Lawyer suing DNC for fraud speaks out on lack of media coverage

The lawyer who filed a class-action lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee and its ex-chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz nearly a year ago tells RT that there has been a “mainstream media blackout” of the fraud case stemming from the 2016 primary.

The class action lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee and former chair Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida) filed in June 2016 alleges that the party showed bias toward Hillary Clinton over Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) during the 2016 primary.

But they were working for liberal Democrats and getting royally fucked over. What a bunch of two-faced, phony assholes.
See, that's the angle you missed.
Besides, I'll bet a lot of these volunteers were "people of color." That means these two-faced, phony assholes are also liberal Democrat racists.

A "news" blackout on a newsworthy story, unflattering to Democrats?

Someone check if hell has frozen over.

I don't think the Dems can get any more unflattering. It's just that Russia seems to be dominating the headlines of late. That and fake conspiracy stories.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.

...or a smoke generator.

When I studied journalism, (7th grade) who, what, when, why, and/or where or you have no story. The question I have been asking for months is what?

Some newsmen are finally asking that question. See Rolling Stone. See Tucker Carlson interview with Alan Dershowitz. There is not even a potential there, there.

Politicians with a brain and access to the (lack of) facts like Finestein are starting to murmer to their rabid supporters that their expectations of potential wrong-doing are extremely unrealistic.

This started as a smokescreen to divert attention from the actual content of the emails, a few remaining embers were breathed on by Hillary, post-election as cover to her donors for her ignominious shame at losing to a reality TV star while wildly out spending him. It's morphed into a small wastebasket fire.

Feed enough sheers of blank paper from the copy machine and maybe you set off the sprinklers. (Special Counsel) which puts the fire out, and leaves the pyros wet and cold.

Democrats have no exclusive to being "two-faced, phony assholes".

Donald (I Respect Our Men and Women In Uniform) Trump let a veteran appear in public and be his mouthpiece to lie about how he sent his private plane to fly Marines home during the Gulf war.
Trump didn't see any need to tell Ryan Stickney that it wasn't his private jet and he didn't send it.

This is an unspoken conspiracy between the Party and the Press. You keep feeding us serious charges and we will faithfully report it as news to the exclusion of everything else and then you can use our stories, mostly made up, as proof of your serious charges and the basis for even more serious charges, demands and political proceedings.

Another DNC legal issue?

DNC Committee promised to give leftover funds to charity, but $1 million in surplus funding went toward bonus checks for its 12-member staff.

The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention had pledged to donate money left over after the event to charity, according to a report published by Philly.com this weekend.

But the committee used about $1 million of that surplus money to hand out bonus checks (ranging between about $13,000 and $220,000) to its own staff (which was offered weekly salaries) last November.

In December of 2014, the committee filed a declaration stating that, in order to achieve tax-exempt status, it would distribute surplus money upon its dissolution “to an organization or organizations which shall, at the time of such disposition, be organized and operated exclusively for charitable and/or educational purposes … In no event shall any of such assets or property be distributed to any member, director or officer, or to any private individual,” according to documents obtained by Philly.com.

Last week, Pa. Auditor General Eugene DePasquale announced that his office will investigate how the committee used the $10,000 it received from taxpayers. The committee has repeatedly claimed that none of the state money went toward the bonus checks – and a previous audit by an independent public accounting firm claims that the organization spent the taxpayer grant in compliance with a contract between the state and the committee.

And who knows how many people who probably shouldn't have even gone to college are tens of thousands of dollars in debt, living in their parents' basement and flipping burgers for a living. They were sold a bill of goods.

Even more questions...

The state House Appropriations Committee would like former Gov. Ed Rendell to testify about how the 2016 Democratic National Convention Host Committee spent $10 million in taxpayer money.

Rendell, who chaired the host committee, has reportedly agreed to answer legislators’ questions. The DNC host committee’s spending is already subject to an investigation by Pa. Auditor General Eugene DePasquale, who said he would probe the committee’s spending after Gov. Tom Wolf asked him to do so earlier this month.

Wolf’s request came shortly after news broke that the committee had used surplus money to give its 12 members roughly $1 million in bonus checks, which ranged from $13,000 for its office manager and $310,000 for its executive director, Kevin Washo. The bonuses, which were handed out in November, were offered in addition to committee members’ monthly salaries, which fell between $4,000 and $13,000, according to Philly.com.
