As many of you know Trump spoke at the annual NRA gathering this week. The first president to do so since Reagan.

Trump at NRA

The writer of the article went to a gun control group for comments and this is what she had to say;

Ahead of the president's remarks, Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action said in a statement that "NRA leaders are hoping their investment in the election will help them pass dangerous legislation that would enrich gun manufacturers while endangering Americans. This includes dismantling the criminal background check system, making gun silencers more accessible, and — their ultimate goal — passing 'Concealed Carry Reciprocity'."

She listed three points, two are BS, the third is absolutely true.

Background checks are NOT going to go away and no one is lobbying for such. The NRA, and every other responsible gun rights group, are perfectly happy with the background check system. As a matter of fact the NRA actively lobbied to put that in place. No one wants guns legally in the hands of convicted felons, illegals, or those adjudged mentally incompetent of dangerous by the courts.

The reference to 'silencers' is disingenuous. The issue is "suppressors" which are an animal of a different stripe. Suppressors do quiet things down a bit and reduce recoil, but they don't "silence" anything. Silencers will remain class III items. This is the improper use of language to convey the impression that something is what it isn't.

Reciprocity of concealed carry permits IS high on the agenda. While it is readily apparent that the individual speaking finds this a frightening proposition, her fear flies in the face of statistical facts. The commission of gun crimes by CCW holders is so infinitesimally small as to be virtually non-existent. This is a "chicken little" panic attack on her part.

Trump will carefully weigh this hot bed topic and make an educated decision based on....who he can get more money from; pro gun or anti gun groups. Whatever side lines his or his friend's pockets gets the next executive order

Moving along re. her statement that any of Trumps new policies will be a boon to the manufacturers of firearms is comical. Every time Obama shot off his mouth about "doing something" about firearms sales skyrocketed. Investment in reputable firearms manufacturers was one of the best investments you could make. Since Trump's election a glut has appeared on the market, both in firearms and in ammunition. Prices are falling rather quickly. Quite frankly if you're still holding stock in Sturm-Ruger etc. I'd consider selling.............now.

For those of you that were watching what was going on, there is .22 ammo on the shelf at every store I've visited in the past 3 weeks. A phenomena not seen in the past 6 years.

My proposals:

Six shot revolvers, double action, minimum six inch barrel. No more than 18 rounds in your possession at any one time while carrying the weapon. Open carry only.

Rifles and shotguns limited to 5 round capacity, bolt, pump, lever or break action only. No more than 25 rounds in your possession.

No weapons while in possession of alcohol or narcotics.

Homes with more than 100 rounds stored would be required to have a HazMat designation and be subject to inspection by Fire Marshals.

Fulfills all the 'needs' of the Second sensibly.

Right. You, and the press, have Trump pigeon-holed as a run of the mill politician. And that is exactly the reason that he's doing as well as he is and why the press, and those that have a preconceived notion of how a president should act and what a president should do continually end up with egg on their faces.

I saw your "Rumpy" thread. So what?

Ishmael

I hope he pulls through for the NRA the same way he's pulled through for all of his constituents regarding his campaign promises.

Ya'll feelin' me?

Good luck with that.

As for the alcohol/narcotics thing. I'll back 'under the influence of' re. alcohol. Same with legal prescription narcotics. Illegal drugs is a felony already thus precenting the individual from having a firearm then, or in the future if convicted.

100 rounds is a joke, isn't it? The average home has far more dangerous shit laying around than ammunition. In most states you're required to call a Haz-Mat crew if you break a CFL in your home. Idiots abound.

100 rounds is like, 20 minutes at the range for ONE caliber. I have over 5,000 rounds in order to feed several hungry rifles and handguns.

The rest of your proposed "sensible" rules are utter(ed) nonsense from someone who really has no idea what they are talking about. If I was in any other State, I'd take you to the range and show you what you're missing (after a safety meeting of course). However, since it is now ILLEGAL to lend a firearm in this state without a background check and a 10 day wait while the firearm sits in the safe at the FFL's, PLUS the transfer and NICS check fees AND the firearms safety card/fee, I can't do that anymore.

However, I'm pretty certain that someone near you can take you to the range. As long as you are not in the same fucked up State I'm in that is. You should find someone to do this with. It's fun and educational and empowering. You might even make new friends.

They are one and the same. There is no difference at all; they are just different terms for the same thing. There are no silencers like in the movies. 'Silencers' is the name for suppressors in the law.

To anyone who knows, there is no reason for these to be NFA items. They pose no danger at all.

I've been to ranges. I've been in the field hunting. I've been on a skeet range. Didn't turn my crank all that much.

In most places you're limited to one deer and maybe two ducks or turkeys, so why carry more than 10 or 15 rounds?

But they can be used to conceal a crime in progress.

That said, I wish all firearms were silent. I hate the noise of all the rednecks around here popping off all day. I just don't need to hear them two or three miles away.

So can knives, hatchets, etc. My point is that the police will arrive no sooner, and as usual after the fact whether the firearm is "silenced" or not.

More than a few of the contestants at the 3-gun matched I RSO at have suppressors. Even with ear protection the rifle reports are quite audible, not nearly as much as an unsuppressed rifle, but audible none-the-less.

Further, whether an item is legal or not has never been an obstacle to a criminal. Suppressors are easily fabricated in your kitchen. They won't last long, but long enough to commit one crime. And you can always make another for the next crime if that's your calling in life.

1. Because in order to be successful at taking that deer or ducks or turkeys one must PRACTICE the necessary skills.

2. Because the 2A isn't about hunting. Not even a little bit.

3. Because the unregulated Militia is required to be ready to defend you and the nation with arms and ammo self supplied.

4. Because Zombies don't knock on your door by themselves. They usually bring more uninvited friends with them when they decide to have you for BBQ.

So you got caught up in the "Bloomberg" initiative. They tried that here a couple of months ago and while it made it out of committee, it never made it to the floor for a vote. The county sheriffs went up and testified, "it's unenforceable and we aren't going to waste our resources or time trying to enforce it."

A full round of competitive trap, with good shooters, is 275 rounds. And if there is a tie you start all over again. There are instances of trap competitions going over a 1000 rounds of ammo. Skeet is much the same.

Virtually every state I know of restricts the magazine of what ever weapon you're using to 5 rounds for rifle and 3 rounds for shotgun. They don't care how many rounds you want to pack around. Ducks, deer, antelope, ducks, etc. just don't stick around long enough for you to reload.

But as pointed out, the 2nd isn't about hunting or target shooting.

How in the hell is anyone going to know how many rounds I have stashed away in my safe?

What if you miss your target 15 times??

Good Lord.

Right, because its sportsmen that are the real cause of gun violence.

I'm so tired of bankrupt left-wing memes on guns, gun ownership, gun rights. Finally, we have a President who's promised not to infringe on our Second Amendment rights and who has already begun to dismantle some of Obama's oppression of those rights. Like that ridiculous lead bullet ban on federal land owned by the Army Corps of Engineers imposed on his last day in office.

So how was it received when the Secret Service came in and demanded that everybody in attendance was required to surrender their weapons? Did the NRAers all become sheep at the feet of Trump?
