False and a lie people keep repeating. At no time did anyone require, force or otherwise cajole banks to make bad loans. Never.

What banks did was abandon due diligence through robo signing, double mortgaging, falsification of paperwork and neglecting to verify if the potential homeowner could pay the mortgage. It was all on the banks and the Wall Street firms who gladly bought up then sliced and diced mortgages into even more exotic devices which they then sold.

It was this very reason Wall Street had to be given $700 billion of taxpayer money so they could pay out their bonuses.
