With no context and if one hasn't read the Bible then it sounds like the Genesis story. Obviously it's not tho. More like the opening line of Jesus' theme song. I like to think His theme song is the theme from Peter Gunn or maybe James Bond.

It requires silence.

Brains are wacked as it is. Contemplation and prayer are essential to build up to be able to scratch the surface of what this means.

Even Buddha Bar won't help them.

That scenario assumes a fallible god but the Bible states that is not so. If going by the Biblical God then that story is impossible.

Where is it written that God is infallible? Serious question, I know of no such scripture but there might be one.

In the beginning was the word. And the word was God.

Wrong!

In the beginning was God. The word is a human invention trying to give a name to what is unknowable. And having named it one knows it. And therefore can write a book about it.

Bullshit! At best a collection of parables and ancient history.

If God is omnipotent, there was never a time when He couldn't talk.

That would be the Fightin' Jesus, the one who kicks Sadducee ass and blows up Pilate's fortress.

Psalms, a few things Jesus said, I think Hebrews says something about it.
Maybe Job, too but not sure. Paul almost certainly said something about it because he had something to say about everything.

You are the second person to say God is unknowable. Where are you coming up with that?

It's the basis for agnosticism.

According to the philosopher William L. Rowe, "agnosticism is the view that human reason is incapable of providing sufficient rational grounds to justify either the belief that God exists or the belief that God does not exist".

I'm butting into your conversation...sorry....well maybe not.:D I think infallible is used mostly to describe the scriptures. The scriptures are infallible. I think the word perfect is used to describe God. He is perfect....Absolute....Complete.....like in Romans 12:2. He makes no mistakes.

Thanks for the info!!!!!!!!!

Yay, yay, yay,
And we all went to heaven in a little row boat

Reminds me of one of my favorite stories . LOL
A very religious man was once caught in rising floodwaters. He climbed onto the roof of his house and trusted God to rescue him. A neighbor came by in canoe and said, “The waters will soon be above your house. Hop in and we’ll paddle to safety.”

“No thanks” replied the religious man. “I’ve prayed to God and I’m sure he will save me”

A short time later the police came by in a boat. “The waters will soon be above your house. Hop in and we’ll take you to safety.”

“No thanks” replied the religious man. “I’ve prayed to God and I’m sure he will save me”

A little time later a rescue services helicopter hovered overhead, let down a rope ladder and said. “The waters will soon be above your house. Climb the ladder and we’ll fly you to safety.”

“No thanks” replied the religious man. “I’ve prayed to God and I’m sure he will save me”

All this time the floodwaters continued to rise, until soon they reached above the roof and the religious man drowned. When he arrived at heaven he demanded an audience with God. Ushered into God’s throne room he said, “Lord, why am I here in heaven? I prayed for you to save me, I trusted you to save me from that flood.”

“Yes you did my child” replied the Lord. “And I sent you a canoe, a boat and a helicopter. But you never got in.”

:D:eek: So row row row your boat!!!

The Bible reveals who God is. It was inspired by God Himself to reveal who He is and His plan for mankind. Do you know the history of the Bible? There is no way that it couldn't be God's word. I know God. He has revealed Himself to me many times. He speaks to me and guides my life. He has performed true miracles in my life and in my family.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. {in old time: or, at any time}

It is hard for non-believers to understand that death is not a bad thing. God is actually calling the innocent home to eternal life with him. He has a purpose for each of us here on earth, but then he calls us home for eternity. Earthly death is not the end.

When Gabriel tells Mary what is going to happen he waits for her answer. She says "let it be" - She consents.

As to your last suggestion, I think I'll pass.

Death is what gives life its meaning. Makes it precious.

Hey there!!! I can see your point. I believe in an afterlife, but I am not ready to go yet. There is something special about this time. It would freak me out if this life was all there was though. I have many things to be thankful for, my kids for one, but truthfully a lot of this life really sucked. lol

Maybe that makes me more willing to have faith that there is more. Don't know.

Non believers in God have no hope when they die. They believe that they cease to exist. Why would they look forward to that? But worse yet, in reality they not only continue to exist, but they end up in a really bad eternal place.

Believers in God have no hope when they die. They believe they will continue to exist. Can they not accept that all things must end? But in fact will be worm food and eventually star dust along side the atheists for all eternity.

Not necessarily. There is no logical reason why the existence of an afterlife depends on the existence of God or vice-versa. As agnostics believe humans living in this world simply cannot know whether God exists or not, so with the afterlife; there is no good reason to believe either exists, but neither can be decisively ruled out. Sensible attitude is, "Wait and see."

And don't give me any shit about Pascal's Wager. It implicitly assumes that atheism and Catholicism are the only options, and they're not. Different faiths offer different paths to a desirable afterlife, and we have know way of knowing which if any is right, and since some of those faiths hold it a sin to believe or practice any other, it is logically impossible to cover all your bets here. Agnosticism is the default setting, let's just stick with it.

Furthermore, the Hell Clause states that only people who believe in Hell go there, and the lowest level of Hell is reserved for those who believe in it because they're afraid they'll go there if they don't.
