The weekend will not be without frivolity though.

A Shop Rocket, as defined for me by a longtime union pipe fitting, is one of the workers that does not get laid off at the end of the job. They go back to the shop to repair and clean up the equipment in preparation for the next Big One.

I will be cooking pinto beans and cornbread. Making bread. Sauerkraut. If I'm especially motivated I'll finally get around to making ginger root candy as well. Probably interspersed with video gaming and online surfing.

Going to a student audio conference where I'm doing some fun panels and seeing a bunch of good friends.

Of it all, the "Release Day" thing is the biggest. Saturday is the day MY BOOK is available. The anniversary has happened every year for the past 34. We are long past party favors, balloons and an evening filled with excitement. The out of town trip is to go do the hunny-do's at the other house.

I won't know anything about how well the book is doing for at least another month or 2. Lag time between everyone's accounting systems makes me the last person to know.

its a 'fun' game we play here sometimes where we remove or tiedown any loose items around the garden
So they dont become deadly flying objects if/when the cyclone hits the coast and city.
(Yeah its a nervous smile)...
