Abusive Comments and email

I posted a story, a cuckold story, and probably mis-categorized it into LW, would have been more appropriate for a fetish category, but nonetheless it's there. I actually think it a love story, but whatever...

My problem is I got flooded with 100's of comments on the story and 100's of emails. Now, I'll take my lumps and criticism as much as the next author, and I want to improve in all aspects of my writing, but these comments were more than criticism. They were death threats, telling me to buy a gun, or if they find my house they will help me open up some veins so I can bleed slowly to a better place. And not just one... 100's of these. Then when I turned comments off on that story, they went to my other stories and started comment bombing there, even after I turned off anonymous comments. They started going to my other stories that have had 4.81 ratings and vote bombed them down into the 4.75 range, and that took a few votes since one of them had 1,000's of votes.

I think I'm going to give up and ask the admin to remove my stories and account and I'm going to leave this community altogether. I'm actually scared some smart tech kid might figure out my pseudonym and link my account to my person and come track me down and harass me or my family or worse. After all the time I've spent here writing and having a wonderful community that really offered genuine feedback and support, this is just no longer a safe space and I'm ready to call it quits.

Before I go, however, have others experienced this? Was my sin of putting the story into LW really that awful? I'm so frustrated and saddened over the situation.

Oh wow. I feel for you. I've had a few comments and trolls but nothing that bad. I don't know what to suggest other than stay out of that category and just let it die down.

I am so sorry for you -- the time people have for bullying, rudeness, incivility, and down-right assault is shocking. I believe that is a relatively few people here, so just turn off the comments as previous poster advised.

Most of us are very nice and nurturing. Good luck with your writing.

Loving Wives is a minefield full of people who will attack any story and any author they don't like.

But - bombed down to 4.75? Most of us would be very pleased with a rating of 4.75.

You can ask Laurel by PM for a sweep of your stories if you suspect malicious voting.

Some of mine have been bombed to the lower 3.xx level.

I have found two things about posting in the LW thread:

1 - after the first shock of negative comments, I now look forward to what the trolls are going to say. Remember, they are not commenting on your writing ability, they are commenting on the story topic, which if they hate it so much, they shouldn't be reading it in the first place!

2 - after the trolls crash it the first day, the ratings will recover somewhat. AND there usually are good comments to sustain me through the stupid ones. I'm sure some of those trolls never read it anyway - they just post the low ratings for the fun of it.

I agree with Hypoxia - you can turn off the anonymous comments and spare the trolls, who will still give it low ratings, but at least the horrible comments won't be there.

I have lots of personal experience in the LW room - I left a story with an open ending and got blasted! But I survived, and have posted in there since.

Well, I have a couple of stories there and I just delete the trollish comments. I fo keep the funny onez tho. I find the occasional sweeps restore the ratings for a while. But that's just one of the hazards of LW. Re the feedback, just don't respond. I get lots of stupid emails and photos. I think some of them are a tribute to my writing. I just delete them. As long ss you don't reply noone has your email address. And if they do, just make sure its an anonymous one only for LIT.

Some people just can't help being abusive and childish. It's the only way they feel they have any kind of power. The have no self-esteem in real life, but here they can be Superman, or so they believe. Don't let them run you off. That's what they want. Just ignore them and keep writing.

I don't put anything extreme in the stories, though, and don't write purposely to the category or the anticipation of stirring up a snake's pit. I think that's part of the problem in LW (not suggesting it includes your story)--that some of the authors are playing with the category and poking the snakes with a stick to rile them up for everyone posting stories there.

Are you suggesting that I should stop poking the trolls? Damn, they are so fun to poke To be fair to the writers who are poking the trolls, the trolls started it. Na na na nah

To the OP, please don't quit. If you quit, you give the bad guys a victory. I haven't read your stories, I'll check them out though, but I believe every author has something important to say. If you didn't you wouldn't be writing. And if your scores are really that high, then you must be good at writing. So please, don't let the trolls win. Keep writing and posting. The chance of one of the mindless trolls actually finding you and doing anything hurtful are about the same as my chance of winning the lottery. And I've never bought a ticket.

Yes, you have a point. My stories there are some of my highest rated, mostly 4.75+ and I don't go prodding snakes. They're not universally loved but I don't find it the snakepit some people do.

I had a similar experience with an LW story, but at least the abusive comments (including borderline death threats) were balanced by comments praising it. The haters 1-bombed the story (as well as other stories of mine), but those tend to get swept eventually, and haters can only hate for so long. So even though it was bouncing around in the lower 3 in the beginning, it's now climbed up to get its H.

I get the impression 'Loving Wives' might be the wrong place to post any kind of story... including stories about loving wives.

I'm sorry you're experiencing online harassement. It's easy to say to "just ignore it" or whatever, but I believe you that it really can get heavy, if the negative comments and mails are so numerous. I hope you stay... but you do what is best for you.

All sites on the internet will have people posting abusive comments and it's not uncommon for someone to read a story in a category, say anal, and then say I don't like anal (then why read?).

But the commenters in LW are in a class all their own. For most part they don't read the stories it seems and they really don't care if it's well written or not or hot or not. They want a particular outcome and if they don't get it they will make their displeasure known pretty clearly. Other places judge cheating stories on the merits of the story but not here. And if like the OP they post a cuck fetish story the commenters have a special place in hell picked out for them.

To the OP, you shouldn't let anyone drive you away if you don't want to go. Though it may be unnerving to receive death threats I don't think they are to be taken seriously. You can post in other categories where there isn't a bias and you can disable comments as others have said.

I asked Jacksonlow if he'd ever written anything since, according to him, I am a '"shit" writer.

...he said no, he's got nothing. I then pressed him to explain why he thought my writing was shit. I was looking for any merit to the opinion because I would like to improve. He, again, came up empty.

At least he was honest, but I really don't understand the psychology behind that type of behavior.

KindofHere is actually quite a nice guy but he drinks too much and when he drinks and posts he kind of loses it which is why he comes back and deletes his posts. We've chatted before a while ago and I kind of forgot who he was when I was ill-mannered back. We made up offline. Really, if he does that again just ignore it. He'll more than likely come back and delete it himself.

This is a nice post-script. I wish him well in getting the drinking thing under control. You know you have a drinking problem when it makes you want to pull up threads on a porn story site and start shitting all over the authors.
